Need hotel advice - plans fell through!

Ok..any help/advice would be apreciated as I am totally panicing. I had a great deal that gave me a huge discount on a hotel in the universal area but dh couldn't get the specific dates off from work so we changed dates and now none of the hotels I could use the discount at are available!!!! This is our first trip to universal and it is tagged onto the end of a disney trip so I needed it to be..well....not costly..and that has gone out the window!! Let me get to my question here....are any of the partner hotels in walking distance? Mind you I will have 5 kids with me (13,13,10,7,3). I see many offer scheduled shuttled service but they say does not apply to the early hours? So is it even worth staying at them if you can't get there for early entry? How often are the scheduled shuttles? Our trip is not till the end of september...if I wait is it likely a better deal will surface? TIA!!!!

If you purchase a package through the Universal website, you will get early entry. There are several hotels that you can walk from including the Doubletree, Holiday Inn at the entrance to Universal and the Hyatt Place. The Holiday Inn has suites that might work well for you.

Well I am staying at the Doubletree Entrance to Universal and I am told that they are within walking distance along with the fact that they have shuttles. I am not sure of the shuttle times but they claim to be about 7-10 min away for walkers.
