Hi Everyone:

I need some advice on weight loss. I am technically (by my Doctor's standards) not overweight. But, I was in a car accident on 12/31/01. Since then, I have gained over 15 pounds. I know it doesn't sound like a lot but I have a VERY bad back problem from the accident and any extra weight can cause pain. So, I have some problems with exercising and even sometimes walking. To make matters worse, I have been diagnosed now with a secondary ovarian failure at only 32.

Now with the background info over:

1. how do you stop yourself from eating just to eat. I find myself sticking things in my mouth even when I'm not hungry.

2. When menopause starts do you find yourself gaining weight around your backend & thighs?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I got a few tips a couple of weeks ago from some fellow WISHers about what to do when you are eating but not hungry and some of the ones that have really helped.

Drink water instead of snacking or chew mint gum or brush your teeth so you mouth tastes minty and food won't taste good. I also go for the sugar free jello it is perfect for any diet.

Good Luck!

Hi!

I have a problem with eating just for the sake of eating, too. I'm learning some things that help me quell the munchies. Whenever I'm in a snacking mood but am not really hungry, I drink a big glass of water. Brushing my teeth helps sometimes, as does (for some reason) going outside for a little while if possible. If it's in the evening and I am at home, sometimes I will take a nice bath--no snacking in the bathtub!
If I am genuinely hungry, I eat--but of course I try to eat healthy foods in reasonable portions. I always have a fresh fruit salad, cottage cheese, a vegetable tray/salad fixings, etc. in the fridge for healthy snacking.

When I first started my exercise/healthy eating plan 6 weeks ago, I had a terrible time cutting down on absentminded munching---it was a hard habit to break but gradually it things have gotten easier and easier. You will be able to break the habit, too!

Sorry I can't comment on your other questions; hopefully someone else can help! Best wishes for your weight loss efforts, and for great health in the future!
