Hi all,

Not new here but haven't been around for a bit too. My boys (20 & 18) and myself are planning on going next August (first part). DS20 and I haven't been since '08 and DS18 hasn't been since '98. Both are in college.

We're trying to decide where to stay. We (DS18 & I) had plans for POR back last year but had to cancel. This will be the 3rd time since '08 trying to get there. I would love to stay in POR and when I priced it out for all 3 of us, it's around $4200 (this is a standard room, dining and 7 days of tickets). I could probably make it happen but I want to be sure we can afford it and not let them down again.

That said, what value resort would probably be fun for my young adults? Should I book a value and upgrade to POR if it turns out we can afford it? They aren't picky and they don't care where they stay, I just want it to be memorable for them as who knows when they'll get back.

Ideally, I'd like to book rather soon so I can start making payments which are doable.

Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

Teresa

You can always book POR and wait to see if a discount comes out? Then downgrade if you need to. One good thing about POR they have a murphy bed in Alligator Bayou section so the boys wont have to sleep together, just make sure your request that section!

I would suggest that you go ahead and book PO-R; the rooms are bigger, queen size beds vs full size at Values. There's the boat to Downtown Disney, Yah Bob is great, the pool is much better for older "kids".

But, which ever you choose, you'll have a great time just being with your family.

Alternatively, you could book POP or ASSp and upgrade to POR AB if a discount comes available. If no discount, you would still have a less expensive room booked that might make it all possible.

The value resorts are great in their own right and many kids love them. Slightly smaller rooms and less foliage, but lots of fun AND you are in WDW!

We have stayed in AS and POP often when staying in a more expensive resort just wasn't in the cards. We loved every minute!

I believe in booking what I can afford then upgrading to better if there is a discout that makes it possible.

Another possibility is to split yor stay. For example, if you are there for a week, spend 3 nights in value then move for 4 nights to POR. That way, if you really want to experience POR, you do, but the average per diem is lowered by a few nights in the value resort.

I am a big fan of split stays. You get to stay in 2 resorts. To me it almost feels like 2 vacations in one!

Thank you both for the feedback... how big is the murphy bed? Is it like a twin? Do I have to book preferred to get that murphy bed?

I think I'll book POR, I didn't think about downgrading! DS20 & I stayed at POFQ and loved it! We loved taking the boat to DTD.

It is the size of a small twin. There is all the info on the POR thread.
