Need help

LOL! Our family is far from first time campers, I assure you! While we do 4 star hotels, we also camp frequently. We're hikers. As in, grab a backpack, go into the out country, and sleep under the stars--although usually with a tent. What's "new" to me (us) is the RV. I know a RV will be different, I just don't know how.

Ahh! Sorry, I misread! <smacks head, lol > If you are comfortable backpacking in, then I think you will love a big RV. :)

I guess I just saw how various trailers wouldn't be comfortable or big enough. Most trailers have ample space for 2 adults and 4 kids. Especially if you're seasoned campers. We now have a Class A motorhome again and we also bring a tent for my girls and their friends. Throw the kids in a tent and you're good in no matter what you rent! :cool1:

Just a couple points... Even a pop-up is a step up from a tent so it may be that you will enjoy it tremendously. As for the bathroom, if you request to be close to the comfort station they can accommodate that... Always have for us. We spent last Thanksgiving at the Fort with several families and decided to make it our new tradition! One of the families we camped with rented a brand new Rockwood pop-up from Fort Camper Rental for their family of 5 and they absolutely LOVED it! Because there is so much to do the camper was really just a place to fall into bed after a fun filled day. The folks at Fort Camper Rental were so nice and even had everything set up, beds made, rug out, chairs up and lights strung upon their arrival. They are renting again this year at a rate of $69/night plus a campsite rate of $93/ night so definitely cheaper than a cabin. Thanksgiving is such a wonderful time to be at Disney... Great way to get into the holiday spirit! Safe travels to you and yours!

Thanks to everyone!

When I say too small, I'm thinking of the different goals. When backpacking, bathrooms aren't important, but at campsites, that not appreciated. :) while I have older kids (teens), I'll also still have an exhausted preschooler, and mom/dad being exhausted also, middle of the night trips to a comfort station, no matter how nice and close, aren't as favorable as a self-serve bathroom. And since theme parks are the bigger goal (though not commando), I want to make sure everyone is super well rested. And I want a little bit of space, especially because I think we are going to spend around a month road tripping & camping through several states.

We are definitely going to give this a try. I think combing two things we love should be fun.

This will be our first trip to the Fort so I'll have to let others help with local recommendations. We just got a new camper and it is a bit of a learning curve. You might want to look around at local places that sell RVs to figure out what would work well for your family. We like ours that has a separate room for the 4 bunks so we can put the kids to bed and stay up a bit later. If you can I would do a practice run locally. We just went camping and saw a family that had no clue about emptying their grey and black water and it was pretty obvious they rented the camper. At least get whatever rental company to explain the camper with you very well!

A lot of the differences between a camper and tent camping would be taking care of the bathroom stuff. You want to be sure to use single ply tp and run more water than normal when you flush than you would think. I would ask whoever you are renting from if they provide sheets, blankets and pillows. Also cooking supplies, plates, cups, etc. Of course you will need food, clothes and toiletries. Even though we have a shower in our camper we will probably just go to the comfort stations to take showers and go potty when it isn't early morning or late at night. I hope this isn't too scattered and helped a bit with getting ready.
