I am planning a trip for my family (all adults) so the pressure is all on me. We want to go at a slow time, so we were told that somewhere between the 3rd week of Jan until right before Valentines day was the best bet. This is not until 09, but I want to plan ahead. I bought this membership book thing online that referred me to a travel agent to book hotel. I called her and she seemed really nice, but she told me not to book until early summer ,:wizard: because the rates are not even out. We only need 2 or 3 rooms at one of the moderate hotels. I am afraid that If I wait, we will not have a room. How early should I book, and do you think I can find any discounts for this slow period? Any advice is greatly appreciated! I have not been to the park in about 17 years (i was just a kid) and did no planning back then! Thanks to you all! You all seem like such a sweet community!

Hi and welcome!!

I'm no travel agent. In fact, I haven't been to WDW in 19 years. But I've been doing some SERIOUS research since about July.

If you KNOW you're planning to go, can nail down your dates and resort, then I would book ASAP. That way you're sure to get the dates and resort and room type you want.

I think the travel agent is trying to save you from sticker shock when the prices go up in August. But if you're going either way, and are resolved to paying more than this year's prices, why not book now?

I know there are places that can tell you which resorts are scheduled for refurbishment in the upcoming months-- that will definitely enter into your decision. If you want to start a thread on it, I bet people will fill you in. That way you won't end up with a room that's next to a construction site.

I started a thread for other newbies, it may help you get started: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1715551

As to discounts, find a thread (or start one on your own) in the Codes section of the Resorts Forum. Scroll down and look for "Feb 09" Subscribe to the thread; that way you'll know when the codes come out. And then make sure that each household your booking for is an AAA member; their discounts range from 10-20% depending on the resort and the time of year.
