I have a very simple dress (no beading or embellishments) and was wondering what kind of veil to get. I am getting a cathedral length veil with two tiers, the longer of which is detachable. My question is should I get a plain veil or one with rhinestones or crystals? I will be wearing a tiara with the veil. Also, if any of you had a veil with any crystals or rhinestones can I see a picture of the veil with your dress. Thank you so much!

Hi there. I have a cathedral length veil where the long part is also detachable. I got mine when I bought my dress at David's Bridal. Mine matches my dress. It has Swarovski crystals cascading down it. You could go either way - crystals or no crystals. It would be pretty and subtle if you did choose to do it. I'm not sure if I can find a pic of it. I haven't taken my dress out of its bag in a year - I gained 5 lbs. - but I will be soon. I will have to get it fitted soon. If I can find a pic, I'll post it. :sunny:

I ended up wearing my mother veil it was very long and had lace the length of it...only issue i had was the lace stuck to the carpet on the way down the isle in the WP....it was funny really, I’m the only who noticed, but it did bunch in the pictures...

As for your question, nothing wrong with a little crystal it tends to be very subtle .....but get one with a finished edge even if its plan so you dont have the same issue as me.....Oh defiantly walk around in it before the big day ....I so forgot to do that....

i had a finger tip white veil with 2 layers that i wore with my crystal & lace embellished white wedding dress. the veil was pretty plain but it looked so nice in the photos & i loved wearing it.

If your dress is simple then you can choose embellishments on your veil and it won't look too busy. In fact it will look beautiful! :goodvibes My personal taste is to choose lace on the veil, because I think it looks really elegant, and I like anything remotely antique or retro looking. :) Good luck! :thumbsup2

Vicky~ I agree with the other posters! I think having a veil with some beading, crystals, etc., would be really beautiful! I am the opposite of you..I have beading and satin edging on my dress and am wearing a veil that just has a thin satin edge to match!

Good Luck, but I can't wait to see what you come up with! I think veils are just so beautiful!!

I had no idea when I bought my veil - which sounds alot like yours it is long chapel veil with the edges trimmed in crystals ect. I didn't think to look at the price - bought my $750 dress.. and then my $375 VEIL!!!!!!!!!!!!! I almost had a heart attack. I never imagined it would cost that much. Since I had them order it I had no way of taking it back/ exchanging it nothing. It was like the cost of a dress..

Is this NORMAL?

please someone tell me that is normal and yours was just as much! :confused3

IMO, an embellished veil would look GREAT with a "less embellished" dress. I say go for it!!! ;)

Thanks for all the advice! I think I will get one with the crystals then. I know some brides who got veils on ebay and were very pleased. The price is pretty cheap also - less than $50. So, I am going to look there first. I've already tried on the style I want so I know what to get. I'll keep you posted on how it goes!

:woohoo:

I also think a "fancy" veil would be lovely. If you can get one "gently used" that would be wonderful. My 2 veils were completely detachable, so can be used with any headpiece, band , tiara, etc. I had a cathedral length for the church, and elbow length for the redeption...same headpiece. DD will probably use one or both someday.

It's not like a gown, where you have to worry about size, stains, etc. The veils generally hold up better, and a good seamtress can "trim" any defects.

Yes, I think this is pretty typical of bridal shops. They really get your money with all the details and extras. That's why I've read that if you want a plain veil (with nothing decorating it), it's better to make it yourself. There's a lot of information at beading shops on how to make them. I was very close to making mine...I even bought the beads. But, instead I decided to buy a headband made of tulle made by an artist in New York. It cost me $350 anyway! But I love it! :teeth:

Oh i feel your pain...and this is why i wore my mothers...(honestly it didn’t match my dress at all, and I had no intention of wearing a veil to my reception)….but when I ordered my dress they told me it had a matching veil also made by the designer, I was like great….until I found out they wanted 1500 dollars for the silly thing…. :confused3 …..

I went with a cathedral mantilla veil with lace and light pears and sequins on it
if your dress is plain and your wearing a tiara I would recomend going light on the glitterieness Just because you dont want your head to shine like a disco ball.
hehehe
Subtle is always pretty

I got mine from www.veilshop.com.... I love it! It got here really fast, and it was very inexpensive (but, I didn't get any embellishment). I'd say it's worth taking a look because they have really reasonable prices! I just went to the bridal shop to look at what style length etc. I wanted and then found it on the website and ordered it.

I got my veil at A.C. Moore. Its a plain tulle double layer, fingertip length veil... After the 40% off coupon, it was $7.00!! There are quite a few different veils, with rhinestones, pears, ribbon edging, even embroidery. I'm a very crafty person, so I am going to add some Swarovski beads to it :thumbsup2 (Swarovski beads also bought with 40% off coupon!)

I love AC moore! I jut got my tiara there with the 40% off coupon! :cool1:

They didn't have the kind of veil I wanted. I wanted a cathedral length veil with a detachable shorter layer. Anyway, being a woman, I changed my mind. I decided to do with a plain veil since my tiara is very sparkly. I bought the veil on ebay so hopefully I'll like it.
