Its time! Im ready to jump in, I've done my research (for the most part). Im going resale direct. We love the BCV and Ive been looking at all the resale options. The boards have helped soo much!, Thanks. Im still stuck with one issue, UY? When I think I have it figured out... I start secound guessing myself. There are only a few options I been given for my UY, I have been thinking Dec. We usually stay in Nov-Dec as our first choice, but always end up going down durning the spring too. Ive never had to cancel a trip, but if some reason I had to cancel our Nov-Dec I would be in trouble of losing the pts. right? & how hard will it be to find something for the spring? Any suggestions? I read over and over on the boards that many wish they had chosen a different UY, So I just want to get it right the first time.

To me, the ideal UY would be one in which you get your points in the month you wish to travel. Say you got a contract with a Dec UY. In Dec of '10 you'd be vested with your allocation. Those points remain fully usable and bankable for 8 months thereafter. In this example, you could take your Dec trip, and a spring trip - and if you had to cancel one of those (or both) the points could be banked into your dec '11 allocation without loss.

If you travel in NOV- Dec I would not buy a Dec UY.

If you cancelled a trip using current year/borrowed points in November, you'd have a month to use them or lose them. If that's the time you'd most often go, I'd get an October UY. It would cover spring reservations too.

SO? if I went with Oct. UY (which is one of my options) I could book out as far as Sept. in which I would wait a couple months for my Nov-Dec plans, but I would be under the 7 mo. time for the spring. That would make it hard for the spring booking, correct?

AND I AGREE WITH THE PET STORES! STAY AWAY FROM PUPPY MILLS!

I'm new but as far as I'm aware, UY has nothing to do with when you can book, just when you need to bank points/use points by. If you had an October UY, you would have until the end of May to bank points (which would be helpful in case you had to cancel any of your winter or spring trips).

The PP is correct. Your UY doesn't dictate when you can book a reservation, it dictates when points must be banked/renewed. An Oct UY would allow you to book ANY 11 month window ( as long as you had the points ) but would keep you safe if you booked a trip in November that you had to cancel.

I think a Oct uy would work better for your travel time also. We have a Dec uy which our long time guide recommended seeing our travel was mostly in Jan or Feb and it has worked out great.

Do not confuse use year with when you can call to reserve. Regardless of use year you can always call 11 months out at home resort and 7 at others. In other words, if you have an Oct use year and want to go in Dec 2012, you can call in Jan 2012 to make the ressie and use points coming in Oct 2012 as your "current" use year points for that trip.

Use year impact to consider has only to do with the cancellation/banking issue. Since you must bank any points by end of eighth month of use year, many consider it wise to have a use year that begins the same month as or shortly before you usually travel, but anything up to 6 to 7 months before will avoid the problem of cancelling and then not being able to bank points because cancellation date is in last four months of use year. If you usually go in Nov to Dec and spring your ideal use year is Oct since there is no Nov use year,

Another vote in favor of an October UY. You'd have until May 31st to bank any unused points...which will be perfect for travel in Nov, Dec, or spring.

And as mentioned previously, you can book your home resort 11 mos out regardless of what your UY is, and 7 mos for non-home resort. You just have to make sure the amount of points required is available, and member services can assist you with that.

Good luck!!!
