We are headed to the San Diego area next week and my sons are very interested in going to Universal Studios. The problem is that my husband has a heart condition and can't do some rides, and my youngest daughter (age 6) is under 48 inches.

So, my question is whether or not it will be worth the drive from San Diego? I know there will be some rides that my husband and daughter can't go on, but will this be the case the majority of the time? Is there anything they could do in the meantime?

We just got back from universal yesterday. We had a great time. I think most of universal is non-ride. It's mainly shows and performances, and then the tour. But, I do have to say, alot of the shows/tours get alot out of "surprises" and can be a little intense, so if that's going to give your DH trouble, I'd skip it. DD was a bit scared during the "earthquake" scene on the tour, things kept happening all around her. She also didn't like the shark. And, we kept her eyes covered during the mummy part of it. Waterworld is the stunt show and there's lots of action and bullets/explosions. Terminator 2 3d was great, but there are alot of surprises. You can get stationary chairs, if you'd like, so there's a bit less of a surprise. We didn't take DD to that.
DD loved the Animal show (though we were surprised at how short it was.) They have a child swap for Jurassic Park. The older kids in our group went on it.
They have lots of water play areas which all the kids played in/around.
There's a Curious George play area for the younger kids and DD played for more than an hour over there and had huge fun. Bring things to dry off in/change into. What we did was DH watched DD while we went to a couple of the rides with the bigger kids.
The special effects sound stage was great!
We got in line with everyone for Backdraft, but I took DD out pretty quickly as I thought it might get too intense. Others really liked it, but agreed that it was probably a good idea that I took her out of there.

I think the only really thing he would have a problem with is the Mummy RIDE..and MAYBE the big drop on Jurassic Park {water ride}, otherwise there's only two real RIDES anyway. An if you're afraid of heights do NOT go down to the ride area down the escalators, that almost killed me lol:eek:
