Need help with TV Trivia

I'm at work and we are trying to remember a tv show.....

it was about a guy who grew up watching tv all day and night and when he grew up and a certain situation would arise he would flash back to something he had seen on like Leave it to Beaver or some other show... anyone who can help?

I can't think of a tv show with this premise, but that's a plot point in the Bill Murray movie "Scrooged" (hysterical take on A Christmas Carol).
