My son is booked for two flights that he won't be taking. I want to have the TTF in MY name for future use. One of the flights is $109, but the expiration date is 5/26/11. The other flight is $99, with an expiration date of 11/26/11.
I've been looking at options for booking "dummy" reservations before 1/28/11 when the rules change, just so the TTF are in my name. I'm assuming that I should try to get flights as close to the $109 and $99 as possible, and to keep them separate, so that I then don't have TWO TTF expiring in May.
As of yet I haven't found flights that are EXACTLY $109 and $99. I'm also assuming that I shouldn't use the $109 for two people, as then I'd have to extend the 5/26 date for two tickets (maybe), and that wouldn't be cost effective.
What are my best options? Should I try to get as close to those prices as possible without going over? I found $114 flights, so I'd have to pay to book, but then once I extend the exp. date, I could use that $114 for two different less expensive tickets.
Note that I haven't canceled his flights yet. Could I rebook them as refundable fairs and then cancel and get the refund?
Thanks in advance! I'm trying to think outside the box.
