For science class, my DGD has to make 3D models of a cross section of the following fruits and vegetables:
*Sunflower seed
*Peach
*Raspberry
*Peas in a pod
*Maple seed pod
*Lemon
The directions say that she cannot use modeling clay, she is supposed to be "creative". An example was to use macaroni!
We have no clue how to even begin, or even where to get ideas on how to do this. DISers are so imaginitive, I'm hoping someone will be able to help.
Pleeeeeez...this is due March 24.

Any materials other than clay can be used?

Must it be free standing? (i.e. not glued to a board).

If so--for some of the fruits--a styrofoam carving from those foam pieces from a floral shop.

I'm not very artistic--but turning it into an art project versus a science assignment....might be helpful.

Steryofoam balls. At least for the peach, apple and pea (if you can find a bannana shaped one) pompons? paper Machie?

How about something like a pin project......

The pins would be different heights and when you looked at it from the top it would be the 3-D inside of the whatever seed. You could use silver pins on thicker foamboard or cork and then maybe paint their tops or get some with colored tops or get nails with bigger heads for denser areas of the cross section.

styrofoam balls with a paper machet shell. I'm good at stuff like this. cut the balls to size, then mold the paper machet aorund them. you should be able to stick tooth picks through that to give it "feet" to stand on.

I was thinking styrofoam balls and beads for detail.
Also, using candy like starburst for the smaller things as it is pliable when slightly warmed.
