I posted this on the hotel board but so far haven't gotten a response. Thought maybe a fellow DVC member might have some advice to offer.

I just switched my flights (again!), and now arrive at MCO at midnight before our 6 night AK stay. I am looking for a clean hotel near the airport or somewhere between airport and WDW that won't break the bank. We will have a rental car and will be making a grocery stop before heading to the world the next day. In the past, we have stayed at the airport Hyatt but for this particular day the rate is $250 and I don't want to spend that (probably don't want to spend more than around $120). We don't really need amenities, we are just sleeping and getting up early to check in at AK. I am traveling with just myself and 3 teenagers so something with a couch/loveseat as a 3rd sleeping area would be great but we can make do with 2 beds if we have to. Just looking for personal recommendations as there are so many to choose from. Thanks in advance!

I'm going to follow along here too. We were planning on flying out (with the rest of the family) on Saturday afternoon, but decided to take the last flight out on Friday night instead. The flight is scheduled to land in Orlando at 11pm and we are not renting a car. I'm planning on staying at the Hyatt, despite it's hefty price tag for that night. I have to work that day which means I will be up at 0330. By the time we land, I will be completely exhausted. The idea of even an extra 30-45 minutes to get to an off-site hotel is overwhelming to me. Between now and then, I may re-evaluate my vacation days and perhaps I will take that day off of work.

I don't have specific hotel recommendations but my suggestion would be to try to get the extra night at AKV, that way you're set and don't have to move or worry about the room the next day. It's not difficult to head out in the morning for a grocery stop and you'd have the fridge set. If that's not workable, then I'd use priceline for one of the ares in between the airport and Disney that's close to the WalMart or one of the Publix options. You'll likely need to get 2 rooms but for the price of one room direct, you could get the 2 rooms. I normally investigate the likely prices, then look at the options available in all of the area on priceline directly. I see where people just got the Swan for $72.50 per night, the Caribe Royal for $80. Here's a listing of likely hotel choices (not guaranteed and not official) for priceline.

It's been several trips since I have grocery shopped. The last couple of times we used gardergrocer. What area would the publix or walmart be in so I know what area to search when looking at priceline?

I have had good luck at the Lake Buena Vista Resort Village and Spa. http://www.lbvorlandoresort.com We have found 2 bedroom villas for around $100 per night, but prices go up as they near sell out. Sometimes Expedia has good rates at this hotel.

I am not sure about checking in that late. You would have to call and ask.

Walmart is at the corner of 535 & Oceola Parkway. There’s a Publix at 535 & 192, Celebration at 192, by the Outlets on south I Drive and Orange lake at 429 & 192. Also a super target across from Orange Lake. I’d discourage you from worrying about something that’s immediately on the way in specifically since you’ll have a car. You won’t be far enough away to matter even if you did stay at AKV and had to go back out. Maybe 5 miles to the WM and 2 Publix within 4 or so. I'm not sure what's south of the airport.

You could Hotwire something

Several decent hotels some of suite variety at airport Have seen very good rates at Hilton properties (join honors program for best rates)

I second sheraton. We got a 2 bd there for the five of us and it was less than 150$ a night Very nice

Edit; Wrong starwood from above post. We stayed at one of the Vistana Resorts

We used to stay at:
QUALITY SUITES THE ROYALE PARC SUITES
5876 W. Irlo Bronson, Memorial Hwy, Kissimmee, FL, 34746, US
http://www.royaleparcsuitesorlando.com/

Coffee always in the entrance. Free Hot breakfast buffet. They used to have free daily happy hour, but I don't see that listed anymore. Suites (a room or two separated with doors from the living area with the sofa bed/kitchenette). May be more than you need for the one night, and a little more $ than you want to spend, but I think it is very reasonable for the accommodations!

2 DOUBLE BEDS
EFFICIENCY, SUITE, NO SMOKING
1 Bedroom Suite, Living Room, Sofabed-2Person, Kitchenette - Limited Equipment, Free High-Speed Wireless, Ground Floor, Poolside Room, Courtyard View, 2 Flat screen/plasma TVs, Dishwasher, Table and Chairs, Wet Bar, 2 Phones, Hand Rails-Bathroom, Hair Dryer, Coffeemaker, In-Room, Free Local Calls, Multiple Phone Lines, Kitchen, Iron and Ironing Board, Microwave, Clock Radio/AM-FM, Safe Deposit Box, Refrigerator

All of their rooms are suites.

We have stayed there for one night, and we've stayed there for a week.

Eta a link where I see the happy hour mentioned and some better rates:
