We have a ressie made. The trip is possibly going to be canceled, and these points will be lost. How do I go about renting them to someone?

You are still over 30 days out from the start of the reservation. Could you just cancel this trip and reschedule another? I think if you want to post it on the Rent/Trade Board, you can only be 30 days out.

I need to call DVC this am, some of the points were from use year 07, then remainder we borrowed from 08, I am always unsure of the guidlelines. I am hoping the ones from 08 that we borrowed can go back to that use year, and be able to put the 07 ones into holding to use by the end of 07 use year. I really think we are going to be out of the 07 ones.
The trip cannot be rescheduled due to other committents.

Since you cannot list your reservation you might check the rent trade board and see if anyone is looking for that particular week and contact them before you cancel. You could also offer the points for rent being sure to list the time frame they would be good in since you have the 2007 ones involved there and that would eliminate requests from people looking for some time you cannot use the points for. Good luck with whatever you do.

Yes, we were able to rent out our pts once by checking the rent/trade board to see if anyone was looking for the particular week we had the reservation for. IMO, I think that owners on the board should have 45 or 60 days prior to a reservation to try and rent it if need be. I guess this whole 30 day thing started to try and prevent commercial renters, but it really leaves the rest of us in a lurch if we want to try and rent before it becomes a complete neccesity to do so.

Borrowed points cannot be returned to the UY that they were borrowed from. Borrowing points is a final transaction.

Holding means points from a reservation that was cancelled less than 31 days out, but before check in day. Those can only be used 60 days out to make a reservation before the end of the UY. They cannot be banked. Did you cancel another reservation less than 31 days out?

If you definitely cannot use them and cannot save them by banking, have you thought about asking a relative or friend if they might like to go to WDW for a reduced rate? That would take a lot of pain out of not being able to use them yourself and you might still get some cash out of the deal.

Since I am always in borrow mode (currently -222 points from '09), let me tell you my experience. Several years ago, I made a ressie for Easter week/February break, whatever (a prime week off from school). We then bought our MD home and decided it would be better financially if we went to MD instead of Disney, so I rented the week on the rent/trade board. The girl who rented sent me a check which I cashed, then I called MS to put her name on the ressie. I was told that because borrowing was a final transaction, I could not rent my points. I had to refund the girl her $2100 and we wound up going ourselves. Borrowing can be risky. Luckily that was the only time we wanted/needed to cancel borrowed points.

That's not correct - you can rent a reservation with borrowed points. You can't transfer borrowed points.

If you were told this, they were wrong.

They're your points to use as you want. You can use the reservation, or someone else can.
