Need help with One Time Use Points

i know that the OTU points may only be purchased for a booking within the 7 month window;
and that a cancellation @ 32 days out or further out
results in the points going into the Use Year of the reservation.

So then the points that went back into their Booking Use Year
need to be used by the end of the same use year,
OR they wil be forfeited.

So what would keep an Owner from using the dropped OTU points
to book @ their HOME resort,
but within the 11 month booking window?!

Am I missing something?!

I believe the OTU points do not carry a home resort in any way, so cannot be used within a home resort window.

Once those are in your account, they remain points that can only be used 7 months or less from travel dates. You will have to call MS to use them as they don't show up online. As mentioned, because they don't have a "home resort".. they couldn't be used during home resort priority.

Thank you very much @Sandisw & auroborealis.

I wanted to extend our 100 points with the OTU ,
but I wanted to do so for our home resort.

Given the restrictions & costs, wouldn't it be better to try to find another member willing to do a transfer? That will at least carry over the home resort priority (whichever one it may be). Plus, the points can be banked if not used. I guess the difficult part would be finding a trustworthy member for the transfer. Does this sound right?

For this scenario, I think you'd be better off asking for a transfer from someone (like myself, perhaps). In this way, you'd have them ready when you need them, and can use them for your 11 month window.

This.

Thanks, @LAX . Until only about 1 year ago, I was unaware that Members even were permitted to transfer between other Members!!
Yes!! That is probably the best solution.
I assume that Owners charge comparatively for points as the rental agencies--I.e, David's.

I prefer transferring over renting,
as there is a ton more flexibility.

I do not want to rent, as I am afraid of having to cancel,
and being out the $$$$.

It's exciting to know that we are not limited to our small holdings of the 100 points.
We would much rather pay for transfer points to remain onsite.
Paying OOP for onsite WDW is getting wayyyyyyy to expensive for us.
We just love WDW's Deluxe Resorts, & their Deluxe Villas.

If we could purchase transfer points, we could afford annual trips, maybe even 2 trips per year.
Flower & Garden Fest, here we come :)

Is there a Dis thread anywhere on the ins & outs of point transferring?

I am already planning our 2017 & 2018 Trips.

I am certainly not an expert on this topic, but if you are looking to transfer on an annual basis, you might want to consider adding on a small contract unless you think the annual transfer is only for a few years.

.......(snip)...........Is there a Dis thread anywhere on the ins & outs of point transferring?...............

Here is a recent thread by codina818 that you may find helpful:

Transferring points.. the basics and more

IMO, the most difficult thing regarding transfers is finding another member who is able and willing to transfer you the amount of points you want. Since member are allowed only one transfer per use year per membership (either into the account or out of it, but not both in the same use year), the recipient may need to purchase more than he or she prefers.

Also, keep in mind that transferred points do not show online. You'll have to call MS to use them. That can be an issue if you are trying to book something very popular right as the 11 month window opens. The only exception to that is if you get a transfer for the same use year and home resort.

Good luck!
