My mother is cruising with us on a 4 day cruise. My mother isn't able to walk long distances very well. At WDW she uses a scotter. She also is not a beach person. I am trying to find excursions that will be a good option for her. She would like to go into Nassau and see it but I am afraid there will be too much walking on any of the tours. I have thought about the carriage ride? Also, the glass bottom boat ride but I haven't heard very good reviews?
Also, if she doesn't do the beach what is there on Castaway Cay for her to do?
Thanks.
1. One year (before scooter) I did the taxi tour...a worthy adventure. The taxis are parked about a ship-length distance from the pier. Flat surface, not crowded. The straw market is in the same area...interesting for island flavor
2. Not much. Able-bodied people just rave about it but if you have a hard time walking on rough or sandy surfaces it is a pain. There are a few nice sand wheel chairs (baloon tires, someone else must push) that are available. Once situated in a chaise or hammock you'll want to stay there for a while to rest... The eatery places are paved and the tram is nice for point A to point B transport. There are a couple of shops, the post office, character meet photo opportunity. Gets hot in the afternoon if you decide to wander back to the ship without tram but there is a nice shower/hose/water spigot for washing the sand off just before you get back to the ship. I rode my scooter to the first aid station, left it there and hobbled to the water just to say I'd been swimming at the beach again but I think that, for the experience, I'd better wait for a brain transplant before I do it again.
If you decide to take a scooter or wheelchair that is your own, a seat cover that is both waterproof and heat-resistant is a nice touch...
