Need help with kids consignment pricing

I'm getting ready to unload a ton of DD's clothes, toys, etc, at a local kids' consignment sale that's held twice a year. They're pretty particular, so they have good quality stuff. I've done it before, but always get stuck on what to price things. What do you think people will pay for hardback books like Dr. Seuss? What about board games or nice (Melissa and Doug) puzzles with all the pieces? I always feel like I price things too low so they'll sell, but I don't want to cheat myself out of making as much as I can. You don't get a run down of what sold at regular price and what went on the 25 % off, or half off day, so that's no help. Any experiences with this or opinions on what you'd pay?

You have to price the stuff yourself?

Any of the consignment stores I've ever taken clothes to figure the price for you. I would think that if they had you mark prices, then prices at the shop would be all over the place, with different sellers putting wildly different prices on identical items...sounds like it would be too confusing

I priced Dr. Suess books at $2 and allowed them to go half-price. I didn't have any come back to me at the end of the sale.

Board games are tricky - I've never sold any, but won't pay much to buy one. I've been burned with games not having all the pieces :(

What kind of puzzles, cardboard or wood?

the OP is likely referring to a twice-yearly consignment sale .. which is different than a store.

for an example, www.kykidsconsignmentsales.com is the sale I participate in. You price the items yourself and usually get a higher percentage than selling in a store. It's pretty common to see sellers take home 70-75-80% of what they make.

$2 here for Dr Suess books in like new condition. Puzzles, at most $2, if the 24 pc wooden or 48 M & D and can see all pieces there. I won't buy games or puzzles or anything anymore that you cannot see if all the pieces are there. I also have been burned many times even though you are not allowed to sell incomplete items. I won't pay much at a consignment sale and find it crazy some of the prices.

find it crazy some of the prices.

isn't that the truth?! I've seen excellent prices on Gymboree right next to well-worn Target shirts marked almost full price. Makes no sense. LOL. I've got to get to pricing my things .. our sale is coming up in 3 weeks!

Thanks, everybody. You're right, it is a twice yearly consignment sale, not a store, and everyone does their own pricing. And the prices do vary greatly. The sale won't let you price anything under $3, so sometimes you have to combine items to make them worth that much. You really have to know your brands to know what to price/pay. I'm learning. Y'all were a big help with the pricing of books and puzzles. I know what people will pay at a garage sale, but just wasn't sure if it would be different at this type of sale. Hoping to make some good Disney money next weekend. :)
