Need help with ideas

Our Fire dept puts on a haunted forest to raise money for our dept. we raised about 16,000 last year.
We need help with ideas for rooms to decorate and ways to scare people. If you have been to a haunted forest,house,maze ect. I would like to know what things you have seen and what scared you the most

last year our theme was Deal or Death
we had 6 rooms,bridge and open rooms also with actors.
this years theme is "The Valley of the dead" We want to play room ideas off of that.
We are voted one of the top scariest haunted forest/mazes in Tn and just want ideas to make it better

Hands down scariest thing ever for me was being chased by a guy with a chainsaw!

I went to a haunted path last year. The scariest part for me was walking on the path, not knowing if something was going to jump out at us.

They had tiki torches along the path, which kind of made it harder to see back in the trees, too.

If you could tape the sound of a big animal running through the woods and have that played in a loop, that would be cool.
