need help with ebay

Ive just started selling on ebay and I have some questions on the postage rate

I just sold the Disney world parking lot tram (somehow we had 2!!)

so when I listed it postage was estaminted at around $2.07 to around $8.95

so I went to the post office and the cheapest rate was $8.16

but from ebay they calculated it as only $2.07--

Im not sure how to list it so I can get a more accurate shipping

any ebay experts out there who could help me on this--it would be greatly appreciated

also any other ebay tips

Ebay quotes what other buyer have quoted for shipping based on the item description. There are lots of items with that name listed, from trading cards to the entire set.

Your best bet is to have it weighed list it based on CALCULATED COST. Enter the weight and ebay will calculate the cost based on the location it's being shipped to.

eBay calculates accurate shipping costs if you enter accurate weights & dimensions and choose the right shipping service. So if you are going to the post office select standard post not parcel select (which is only for postage paid for online).

Use a computer to list - not the app. You get more options.

I found my DH not always putting the dimensions of the box it will be mailed in. This made a big dif. Same with the weight.

You need to figure these out first.

Buy yourself a postage scale... so you can weigh items, most of these only go to 3 or 4 pounds. You can use your regular scale for larger items. I got mine from Wal-Mart.

Once you weigh it . go over to USPS website, and you can use the postage/rate calculator to see what it would cost to mail. You can check out what it would be for economy mail, up through priority mail. Also when weighing, don't forget, that the packaging - envelope mailer, boxes, bubble wrap, tissue, and tape all add weight.

Print your postage from USPS on eBay - a tracking number will be included on all postage bought through the site, this is a must if you want to be protected and this protects your buyer as well.

This will not work unless you know WHERE it's going. This is why calculated shipping is most effective.

The calculated shipping also asks for the dimensions of the box or package also. I get all my envelopes and boxes free from USPS.com. First class packaging I get from Sam's club, cheapest place to buy padded envelopes. Always ship first class if the item is less than 13 oz.

Im starting to get the hang of this

so I noticed before under "selling" and then it used to say "calculate"
but now I don't see that anymore

could someone please walk me through how and where I can put in the shipping info so I can get a more accurate rate

Bummer . Calculated shipping is really the best bet. I will also include shipping my my price and offer "free shipping" for smaller items. I sell on Amazon all the time and have an Ultraship 55 scale that I bought YEARS ago on eBay. You can also get shipping envelopes pretty cheaply on eBay.

how can I use the calculate button to get shipping when I don't know where its going until after its sold

and after its sold its not under "my selling" any more

Ebay will calculate it and add it to the shipping info. The buyer knows the shipping calculation already because it's on the listing when they check it out based on their location.

After it's sold it is still in your My Ebay under SOLD. It will show whether it's paid, the total and a link to ship.

You are probably going to have to suck it up for this transaction since the buyer agreed to your low shipping price. You can *try* to email them and tell them that you are a newbie and miscalculated the shipping and see how it goes. They may let you off the hook and you can cancel the sale. It would be nice if you offered it to them as a Buy It Now with the new shipping.

In the future you will need to know the size of the box/envelope and the weight. When you enter that into the shipping fields in the sell page, eBay will calculate the shipping for each buyer individually using your zip code and their zip code.

I'm sorry, I meant for the future sales. Robin is right, I had to learn the hard way with this, too.

it really is starting to make sense

I am just going to let this sale go as it is--I still did pretty good selling it and anything is better then having 2 of these--I still don't know how that happened

so thanks again
