Has anyone used their points to go to DL? We are looking to go in January maybe but I am wondering if it is worth the points.

Wow, the 2007 point chart for the Grand Californian is even better that the 2006 chart. We used a total of 264 points (6 nights @44/night) for the theme park/pool view room, while the same stay during the same time period in 2007 would only be 238 points (Sat. night @58 points, Sun-Thurs @36/night).

Was it hard to get a ressie? We want to go in January. I know that is only 5 months away! how far in advance did you start planning?

One thing to think about is that traditionally the DLR has offered excellant AP rates for January. Even this year, when AP rates were offered on fewer nights, I had a friend who went the end of MLK weekend with a $139 rate at the DLH hotel. With a Deluxe AP costing only $209 with the DVC discount, this may be more cost-effective than using points.

Of course, the AP rates are not ususally available until a couple of months prior to the arrival date, so you may want a back up plan.

Best of luck -- Suzanne

We had absolutely no problem booking exactly what we wanted at either the Grand Californian or the Fairmont in San Francisco, where we also stayed on points. I booked both places in January, which was 7 months before our trip, but MS told me that you can book Disneyland at 11 months.

We have stayed at the Grand Californian on 3 different trips using points. No problem booking only a couple of months ahead of time!

The only issue we had was on the last trip this past May. We checked in late and were told we were "upgraded" to a California Adventure view. Well, since the park was closing early we did not particularly want a view of an empty theme park. We had ressies for a Downtown Disney view. Since it was a one night stay, we asked for the manager. He informed us they had given away our room. But upon checking he was able to restore us to a DD view.

During much of 2006, DVC offered great deals on point stays at DL for the 50th. We went to the Grand Californian on points just last month and had an AMAZING time. Beautiful hotel, great service, wonderful location. The Disneyland Hotel is an even better deal on points, depending on your preferences, style, taste. DLH has a bigger and more "themed" pool - some kids prefer that. Also has the slightly more popular character breakfast. But the Grand CAlifornian pool is themed and we like the character breakfast there with chip n Dale. We also love the lobby bar at this hotel, which is beautiful.

Stayed there last year on points as well -- fabu! Upon checkin, we were upgraded to a suite with a beautiful fireworks view! :cool1: :cool1:

We love the place and believe that the values offered on point stays during past year or two have been incredible. I haven't looked at the 2007 charts yet, but unless they have gone up substantially, I def recommend it as a nice change-of-pace west coast option.

Never had any problem making ressies only a few months out.

Have fun!!

Thank you all so very much!! As you can see by my tickers we have decided to stay with our WL ressie in January. So, my DH has promised me my DL trip for Christmas next year!!!!! YEAH!! Now I have a whole year to plan. :surfweb: or :badpc: we will see!
