My daughter and son in law are taking their two children to WDW for a 2 day trip. It will be the first trip for the kids ages 4 & 2. She is wanting to make it special for them. Can anyone suggest eating places that would make there trip special? We have not been since 2004 and things have changed.

If they want to see princesses Akershus breakfast at Epcot is really good and it's a great way to see the princesses without having to stand in long lines.

Definitely a character meal or two. She should examine which one might fit their needs best both from characters present and food and manner of service. CRT and Akerhaus are princess selection. 1900 Park Fare has Cinderella and the dinner has the stepsisters. I'm eying Tusker House (Donald) as there have been good reviews for that as well as Crystal Palace (Pooh). But you will find other fans of things like Garden Grill, which I believe is served family style, and there is a Disney junior one but seeing these little characters huge with giant heads does freak some kids out. And Chef Mickey's of course. And I'm not even covering them all. So I'd search out and figure out what might work best.

For non-character meals, I think I'd go with food that can be kid-friendly in an interesting atmosphere. I wonder about Via Napoli -- pizza, pasta and giant fun pizza ovens. Coral Reef is another one that could be fun given the huge aquarium. Prime Time Café has TVs at some tables showing old 50s shows which could be entertaining for the kids. And there is Casey's with some hotdogs and corn dog nuggets which might be welcome by the kids. That's just what I've identified off the top of my head from my own research. I'm sure others can offer up ideas of some other fun ones. Hope they have a great time!

For those ages I feel like Crystal Palace with Pooh and friends would be cute :) That is in Magic Kingdom.

In Animal Kingdom we *loved* Tusker House, it's Mickey, Donald, Goofy, ect in their safari gear but the food is EXCELLENT. Our favorite character meal as far as food was concerned.

In Epcot I have heard Garden Grill is good, we did Akershus and that was my daughters' favorite princess meal (we did Cinderella's Royal Table and they both hated the food).

In Hollywood Studios you could do Hollywood and Vine with the Disney Jr. characters (Jake, Sofia, Doc McStuffins and one of the little einstein characters if I remember right).

Since it's a short trip I definitely suggest a couple character meals because 1. they'll be fun and 2.they won't have to take as much park time meeting characters.

Depending on which parks they're going to and whether your grandchildren are boys or girls, we LOVE Tusker House breakfast in AK! Great food and great character interaction. We've never done CRT but have done lunch at Akershus in Norway twice and think the princesses there are great (and I have boys ;)). Even now at ages 9 & 12 my boys still love Crystal Palace in MK where you can meet Pooh, Tigger, Piglet and Eeyore and those are just a few of many character meals.

We did 1900 Park Fare (in the Grand Floridian) breakfast a few years ago and enjoyed the food and characters there - Alice, Mad Hatter, Mary Poppins and......Pooh? Tigger? Lol I forget which one exactly but sure someone can help. If your daughter/son in law want a late start or an early night they could certainly find a character meal at a resort. But again, with only 2 days they may want as much park time as possible and leaving for a meal or not being to a park first thing can cut down significantly on your time, so it really depends what they want :)

I would definitely do character meals so their time in the park can be reserved for just rides. Chef Mickeys and Crystal Palace for breakfast and 1900 Park Fare and Cinderella's Royal Table for dinner would be my top picks. You also need to get a dole whip and turkey leg or else its not an official wdw vacation.
