Need help with dev pts

Not having ever done this, I need some help. I called this morning to try to use the 160 developer points for GC. We will not get our 160 AKV points until Dec. Do I try to get a reservation for 4 nights and use 156 of those developer points? What happens if I need 164 points? If I need to use 4 of my points that I technically don't have until Dec, what do I do? BTW, the point chart online for GC is not 2009 and the points have increased. We were quoted standard view, 35/50; DTD view 39/58; and CA view 41/61.

you can't use any of your AKV points(assuming they are the new kidani ones) until after May 1st.
you can use your dev. pts. you can use UP TO the 160 amount and not over.
then if you need more time at the resort you simply will have to pay cash for your room. so you are at 156 points and cash for any extra days/room you need.

I thought that if I wanted to use them at Kidani, they would have to be used after May 1. But there would be no reason why we couldn't use them at other DVC resorts if there is availability?

if you bought recently your AKV points can be used anywhere after May 1st 09

your dev points can only be used at SSR or like Disneyland and must be used by the date you signed your contract.

were you talking about dec 09, if so I misunderstood

We did purchase recently and plan to use the developer points for CG. It has just been a shock at how high the points are - we may only get 3 nights. But that's okay, we will just end up in San Diego over the weekend or somewhere similar. Thanks for all your help!

Pickles is right, I ran into that problem as well when I needed an additional 5 points over my dev points to make a guest reservation. Even though my use year is december, I can't actually use any of my normal points until may 1st, 2009. DVC was not willing to let me borrow 5 ppoints ahead since I couldn't technically get my use points until may even though my use year was december.

The best way to get additional points if you only need a few is to look on the DVC rental board. Look for people willing to do point transfers. With some work, I was able to find 2 people willing to xfer 5 points. Remember, DVC owners are only allowed 1 xfer a year, so be prepared for a lot of "no's" if you only need a few points.

We are using some of those dev. points for a short stay in Oct. at SSR for mnsshp but one of the nights in the middle wasn't available so we had to pay cash for it.... We keep checking back to see if they can go ahead and switch it over to dvc
