Need help with Carribean vacation

If you are still interested in Mexico, we love the Iberostar chain (the Iberostar Lindo and the Iberostar Maya are our favorite Iberostars' in Mexico). We go each year in May, and absolutely love it! There are activities to do all day long if you wanted, a kids club for the younger members, a teen disco, tons of pools (even a lazy river and a wave pool).
For the best pricing, you can check out your dates on Funjet.com, and my local travel agent can almost always get a better price than that by a few hundred dollars.

Best of luck & congratulations to your daughter. I'm sure wherever you choose will be great though! You can't go wrong in the Carribean/Mexio!

You said you live in KS, if you want to save money and drive, you could cruise out of Galveston or New Orleans. I think a cruise vacation is probably the least expensive option for the Caribbean, and you can see much more of it that way :)

The problem with a cruise for the op is that they have five in their family. We use to be a family of five and cruises were always expensive because we had to book either a suite or two rooms.

Fantasy class Carnival ships will hold 5 people to a cabin, or you can get 2 cabins adjoining. :thumbsup2

Another vote for Riviera Maya. Tons of choices in properties and lots to do and see in the area. The pricing is still really good too.
The Iberostar properties are very family friendly, alot of my clients go there again and again. I also booked a large group into Grand Palladium White Sand for a graduation trip (30 people) last summer and they loved it. They are family of 5 friendly as well as all their rooms are jr. suites. This property is a good hour south of the airport (just a FYI).
I also highly recommend an excursion to Xcaret, and be sure to stay for the night show if you go. It's totally worth it.

Unless you like literally stepping on each other, I would not recommend 5 in a stateroom, even though some will hold it. We've done it, never again.

.

We would probably have to go at the end of beginning of June 2011. So Im thinking maybe not a cruise........would it be hurricane season.
.

In hurricane season, a cruise would be the BEST idea, IMO. The ship can change its course. If you book a land vacation and a hurricane comes up- you're stuck (hopefully at home, not on the island!)

:cheer2:

I am loving these suggestions! I too, regretfully, am trying to plan a vacation that is something other than Disney... (Oh the shame!!) I really would love to go but think we need something different this year.

Mexico is sounding fabulous! I have been pricing cruises as well, we love cruising! Good luck everyone!

For our family of 4 cruise in November, we booked 2 adjoining rooms on the Carnival Paradise and it was only $100 more than if the 4 of us had squeezed into one room. The "adult time" and having 2 showers was worth WAYYYY more than saving $100 and I am cheap! LOL

We are currently looking at doing the Mexican Riviera on Royal Caribbean, which is a 7 day cruise.
