I have been trying for days and days to get a decent outline of the vinylmation based off of this outline. My plan is to cut the outline on white vinyl and stick it on a glass jar for a vinylmation savings bank... anyways when Ive been trying to create the outlines I cant get the hands completely right or theres parts that have kind of meshed into a blob.

Long story short, I'm desperate for someone to either tell me how to improve it via Inkscape or adobe Illustrator or if you know where I can find one online... I would be so happy! :thanks:

I can take a look at it in the morning :)

that is a very cute idea
I played with it on inkscape - I used the beizer tool & then messed with the nodes I left the little bitty trianlges off at the neck - figure they were too small to show up
I see what you mean by the hands being tricky
I would cut it out as big as possible to fit the jar
so do you want my file or would you rather I look at yours & see what I think you should do??
you can email me at Rinaert at gmail dot com

Hey, I forgot to blog the Singing in the Rain files so I went ahead & added that file to that post - I haven't cut it out yet but there is no gluing so it should be fine as is

You are simply amazing!! I have been out today and away from computer. I have vinyl and will cut it out tomorrow and post pics to report back... thank you so much... :cheer2:

do you have any tips on how to make the lines better? I am sure you are probably busy with lots of things but if i were to email you my original version, would there be any way for you to tell me some tips on how to make the outline better from the get go. I understand nodes and fixing lines and corners, my problem was, for example, the hand was not defined but was kind of welded into the sides of the legs.

I like to trace things with the beizer tool instead of using the program tracer. This way I get fewer nodes. The machinces stop at each node so the fewer there are then quicker they cut and the less jerky cuts.
after I get the nodes set, I zoom in & make sure they are in the right spot (using the second button on the side - when I hold the cruser over it - it says "edit paths by nodes" - this is where I get the curve lines in place

I found some svg files from some blog named mardenz, but it is private. Does anyone have the story on that or how to be invited? It's all over pinterest but whenever you click any pictures it redirects you to the private blog. Very frustrating for a newbie!

Ok great. That makes sense and sounds easier. For some reason I was hooked on trying to have program trace it. And I had no idea that the machine paused at nodes, that makes a world of difference!! Do you use Inkscape?
I'm fixing to post my results with the cut!!

yes - I haven't even tried have SCAL trace anything - I'm too set in my ways ;)

I know how that is... I'm a die hard photoshop person so I was getting itchy trying to use SCAL and Inkscape :-P

Ok, here is my final results.... the bank is made from a paint bucket sold at Michaels, it's about 6in tall and 3in diameter. It started off clear but I rolled up a red piece of paper and stuck it inside.

I had to make some adjustments to the file Reddy originally made to make the lines a bit thicker and took out the individual fingers bc that would have been impossible for the blade to get in there well.

Then I used 'waltograph' to create the words. I owe Reddy so many thanks for helping me out with that SVG file, you really are a life saver and you did it so fast!! :flower3: Also if you want, I can send you my remade file along with the scut file? Just let me know :)

that turned out really cute - I almost left the fingers off myself ;)
I was wondering about using the shadow at 1 or .5 to make it thicker

duh! I completely forgot about that!! I will try that too and see if the lines do come out better that way. Thank you sooooo much again!!
