I had to return a dorm room, cube size fridge I bought with a coupon, from Target.com/Amazon as the motor sounded like a lawnmower as soon as I turned it on.

Target.com/Amazon customer service said THEY would arrange with UPS to pick up the box, as it was their error sending a defective package. They said they will be paying the shipping charges.

I left the fridge downstairs with the doorman (actually a woman.) I told her specifically to get a UPS tracking number or at the very least a confirmation slip of some kind to PROVE that UPS did indeed pick it up. I even left a full size sheet of paper with this direction. I told her to tell any other doorperson the same instructions.

I said specifically: The last thing I want is for Target to later say, "Oh, we never got the fridge, do you have any proof you SENT it?"

She said she totally understood. (This woman is not dumb. She's worked here for quite a while & is used to handling the mail.)

Well, I just went downstairs, the fridge is gone, taken by UPS & the doorperson did NOT leave me a tracking slip! She's gone for the day, so I can't ask what happened. She should have left it in my mailbox. The new person on duty doesn't know anything about it.

I'm very worried the UPS guy now has my fridge & I'll never see my $200 again. The note may still be on the box, so he KNOWS I wanted confirmation & do not have one to show Target later.

My question is: when the other party arranges for a UPS pickup (Target in this case) does anyone know if UPS LEAVE a confirmation of pick-up slip? I'm afraid the doorperson will say, UPS says they don't leave one. Any tracking slip would go to TARGET, not me. And that's why she didn't get one.

It still means I have no proof that it was picked up. Had I known this would happen & she'd be so inept, I would have taken the fridge to UPS myself & eaten the $25 in shipping rather than possibly lose $200.   I know I should have said to NOT give over the box if they wouldn't give me any kind of proof of pick up. But I really thought she'd get a confirmation/tracking slip. :sad2:

Help!

Did you print out the packing slip from the Amazon website? That's what I did when I returned something. I think it had the barcode on it so I think they had a record of it in their system.

I wouldn't worry about it. I've had some things picked up by UPS, and I can't remember getting a piece of paper. I'm pretty sure I didn't, but I'm not positive. But even if you were supposed to, UPS made a note on their computers that they picked it up. It should be fine. And of course, the vast majority of packages don't get lost.

I work customer service, and spent my day issuing return labels and call tags today.

Target.com/Amazon issued you a call tag (when UPS picks the package up), they (Target.com/Amazon) have the tracking number.

Give them a call and ask for that UPS tracking number and run the tracking.

I Do have a copy of the packing slip. :)

I'm just overly worried as 3 companies are involved that the box could unintentionally get lost at. UPS, & since it's a Target purchase via Amazon.

Amazon may later say it's a Target purchase, so it's been sent on there. While Target says it's Amazon's responsibility, etc. Without a tracking number, we can't trace where it ends up.

One of my stores I handle is an Amazon/other store online store. (not target)

We provide the customer service, we ship the product from our warehouse, we handle the returns. Amazon really isnt involoved at all except thier site is the web presence. If you call Amazon, they will direct you to us.

A major company like Target will have a file with UPS tracking numbers they issued listed by date. I'd be surprised if they aren't open 24/7. Set your mind at ease and give them a call with your order number and explain what happened. Tell them you want to track your package so that you know it was picked up. They will be more than happy to help you out.

I wouldn't worry too much, your doorpeople are probably responsible people who wouldn't let just anyone walk off with your package. And if the package never shows up at the return warehouse, as long as it was picked up by UPS, you are covered.

Another part of my worry was that when I logged into my account to process the return, it was TARGET.com who emailed me back that they would arrange it all with UPS.

Later, I realized I was never given an address to put on the box. So I went back to the website, logged in, followed all the links to process the return & all I could find was an AMAZON-RETURNS address. I thought like what you said above, that Target would be handling everything. I didn't have a chance to send a reply email to Target to get a confirmation on the address, before the UPS guy came.

I'm afraid he slapped a sticker with the address info Target gave him, but it doesn't match the Amazon address on the box i put on. The UPS guy would have no reason to check the address at pick-up. He'd assume it was the one he was given & just slap on the UPS barcode label. A possible discrepancy in the two addresses (if there is one) could be where UPS is sending that poor fridge around the country til they realize the discrepancy. :upsidedow

Thanks everyone. I'll call up the Target CS number I was given on the email & see if they have a tracking number.
