Need help with airline carryons

This is going to be only my second time flying, and the first time I didn't have to take camcorders, laptop, dvdplayer, and cameras. This time I feel we need most of this stuff.

My question is does a laptop or a camera bag or a dvdplayer count as a carryon? There are 3 of us traveling, and I was hopefully wanting to take the following per person:

DW - Duffel bag for the day, and camera bag
DD - Duffel bag for the day, and dvd player
Myself - Backpack with everything else for the day, and laptop with case

Is this plan going to be a problem? We are flying SW.

As long as

- your laptop/camera/dvd cases all are small enough to fit under the seat in front of you

- your other bags all meet the size requirements and can go overhead

- you don't have any other bags (purses etc.)

you are fine. Note that since SW doesn't charge for checked bags, they tend to have more space in the overhead bins than other airlines.

You should have no trouble with your plan as long as your bags meet the size requirements. You can have one carry on and one personal item per person. An example of personal item would be a purse, camera case or laptop bag. The laptop needs to be taken out of it's bag and put in a bin to go through the scanner. If your DD and or your DW have a purse too they would need to put either the purse or dvd player or camera in the duffle bag.

Thank you for your help. I thought I read the rules correctly, but was not sure. Didn't want to get to the airport and have a big hassel at 6:00 am to start our vacation!

You are good. Have fun. Remember to check in online asap. Overhead bins fill fast and you could be forced to check in.
