What would be the most convenient hotel to DTD outside of WDW resorts? I was looking at the Hilton. Anybody with any opinions? Thanks!!

The Hilton is probably the closest hotel to DTD and also is the only one that participates in Extra Magic Hours. It is more $ than the others though. I would stay away from the Grosvenor - haven't read good things about it. We stayed at the Holiday Inn (when it was a Courtyard) and it was just okay. When looking at rates, I didn't find the DTD hotels to be much cheaper than the onsite values/moderates. I would crunch the numbers and go onsite if the price is right!

Check Mousesavers, she keeps up with the hotels in DTD as to their quality, recent renovations and best rates. She does have preferred resorts. We are going to give Doubletree (also a Hilton) a try for our group of five next trip.

We stayed at the Hilton three years in a row using Priceline. Read up on bidding tips at biddingfortravel.com or betterbidding.com, and you are almost guaranteed to either get it, Hyatt Grand Cypress, or Gaylord Palms for around $60

Just got back from a last minute trip to Orlando, used the Roomsaver rate of $49.99/night at Lake Buena Vista Best Western for two nights. Room was on 11th floor with a great view of DTD and towards the Parks in the distance. I think we got bumped up to a king room from the standard 2 queens, it was a very nice size room at the end of the hall and was very quiet. For $50 a real bargain in my opinion.

our good friends stayed at Wyndham and absolutely loved it. Right across the street from DTD and was allowed to take all shuttle busses.

Their relatives were at Poly at the time and everyone preferred Wyndham. Mostly because you could run downstairs in hotel and grab a cup of coffee in morning as well as get room service.
Plus they always had a margaritta each night at captain Jacks in DTD

So, don't discount outside hotels, I have stayed at them and were great.
Plus room size ,, much bigger than Disney has to offer

Minijeanie: I had to look at your location because we just got back from Poly and our good friends were staying at the Wyndham - what a coincidence!

They had no complaints about the Wyndham other than the transportation. Wyndham had shuttles leaving on the 1/2 hour to the resorts but they usually had to allow for 1 hour+ to get back and forth. Twice they missed things because they didn't allow enough time. However, for a short walk they could get the Disney buses at SSR and DTD. They like being close to DTD - there was a set of lights and crosswalk in front of the resort which was on the edge of the marketplace shopping area.

i have stayed at the hiltona nd the doubletree guest suites
i liked both the doubletree has a ton of room and the pool was nice
i loved being able to walk to dtd
i love dtd
you can get some great rates through mousesavers.com

I stayed at the Grovesnor just this past May and for the price it was great!

I got it for $65 a night with my Entertainment book discount.

It's not Disney of course, but it has a nice lobby with a nice convienant store with hot foods that is open 24 hours and every room has a refrigerator, which was great! The staff was very friendly also. I know I have read alot of complaints about the Grovesnor, but honestly I had no problems there. The rooms are older and they could use an update, but there weren't bad and they were well cleaned, believe me, I checked! Again, it isn't Disney, but all I really wanted was a clean room near DTD and Grovesnor is RIGHT across the street. 5 minute walk...if that. Also it was nice that on the bus line the Grovesnor is the last pick up on the way to the parks so you don't have to stop at any other hotels and it is the first drop on the way back from the parks.

I checked Hilton too, but it was $90 more a night and even though it is a nicer hotel it wasn't worth that more much to me to stay there since I slept and showered in the room and that was it.

If you are looking for fancy with alot of extras the Grovesnor isn't for you, but if you are looking for a great location and decent price you might want to check it out.

We have stayed and will be staying again at the Wyndham Palace. Great location, comfortable rooms. This person "stacey6552" had a bad experience with the Wyndham Palace. I would consider her opionion to be a bit jaded, but enough about that. Its not a 5 star hotel but with a spa on sight, car rental right there (Alamo) couple of nice places to eat (watercress cafe, and the Outback Restaurant, not the chain one) the rooms are good size400sq.ft., queen beds. All in all it's a pretty nice place. :smooth:

Thank you for your post. We are renting a car for a portion of our stay and having Alamo right there would be wonderful!! That way I don't have to figure out a way to get back over to the Dolphin or the CCC. My main thing is being close to DTD. We are simple people so we don't need fancy (That and we check into the Poly lagoon view concierge on the 1st! ) so this looks to be right up our alley. Thanks again!!

I stayed at Grovsner in August and again, it is not a top of the line resort but for a good nights sleep near Disney it is great for the money.
I thought the room was nice, and it was clean. The fridge was great since we had a baby with us and it was easier putting the bottles in the fridge than using the cooler we brought. They brought up a nice crib as soon as we asked and it was clean and safe. The blankets they provided for the baby were nicer and softer than the ones we had of our own.
I didn't go to the pool but my family did and they said it was nice and clean.
I found it on a discount resort booking site for $59 per night, but when I checked out I found that they had only charged me $34 per night. Nice surprise and I wasn't about to question them.
I will go back again, and plan on staying there in December. Peggie

If you are going to rent a car from Alamo, do it now. You can set it up were you can get your car at the hotel. I think you mentioned you were going in the Holiday season, if so, it's a very busy time, and hard to get cars then. It's a small office, so I would get a reservation now. Just a thought. Have fun. We will be there Dec.29th thru Jan 10th. :smooth:
