NEED help with a Budget Hotel - I think I booked a REALLY bad one!

I have been to DLR a few times growing up BUT this is the first time I am planning a trip for my family where I am the adult and am in charge. I got a great deal on airfare and what I thought was a fantastic deal on a 2 star hotel. The Eden Roc. After looking into it a little more I am REALLY worried about the hotel not being clean, up to code, and safe. I am brining 3 children (one of whom is a baby) and I need something clean and safe - basic is fine. I have a fairly strict budget of under $70 a night! So no HOJO for me, since we are coming mid march rates are higher at a lot of places. I am totally OK with the hotel being NOT in walking distance but a free shuttle (or I guess ART?) will be needed. Basic cont. breakfast would be good too - at the Eden it's a pastry to get you going, but it isn't a deal breaker if we don't get it. Fridge/Microwave/Free Parking are important. Pool would be good - again the Eden Roc has one BUT I am worried that if they can't keep the hotel clean goodness knows how the pool is taken care of. SO I would love to hear your suggestions for a better hotel OR if you have been to the Eden and it isn't as bad as I fear I'd love to hear from you.

You can book Hojo for march and hope they drop to the Ent rate. It's cancellable with 48 hours notice if not. Also, look into Motel 6. Several people have reported decent basic stays there, and Anaheim Plaza is lower in price than many. You could always priceline a hotel near the convention center Many report getting rooms for under $50 a night + resort fee of about $15. You would have to take their shuttle or ART. My parents used Priceline to stay at the Hilton last Aug. for about $45 plus fees. I believe it is a 3 1/2 star, but not sure.

There are sites that help you with how Priceline and other sites like that work. I don't know them, but maybe somone else does.

I always use Priceline when I am on a budget and I have never paid more than $45 per night for really great hotels. The downside is that you can't select a hotel with free breakfast or refrigerator, etc. You will pay a bit more on Hotwire but you can at least choose a place with breakfast. If you go to http://www.betterbidding.com/ you can get some hints on bidding on Priceline and Hotwire.

thanks for the priceline/hotwire suggestions - I can't go this route though too many unknowns. I could potentially end up spending WAY more then my budget with resort fees, internet charges (which we won't even be able to use) and parking fees. I can't take this big of a gamble as we are booking 7 nights I could potentially blow $280!!!
SO any other ideas???

Priceline is fine ~ really! We stayed here http://www.anaheim.crowneplaza.com/ twice last year via priceline and never spent more than $60 per night (incl. the resort fee ~ $12 per night) your resort fee no matter where you stay won't be more than $15 per night. Both times after getting the Crowne Plaza I contacted the hotel and requested 2 Q ~ both times that's what we got. I have Motel 6 http://www.motel6.com/reservations/motel_detail.aspx?num=1066 booked for our 4th of July weekend trip and our most expensive night(s) are $60! We spent 2 nights at the Anaheim Plaza last Sept. and I'd stay there again ($54 per night) ~ HoJo is my fave and just keep an eye out for the ent rate for your nights ~ we got it 2 nights mid July last year, the day before our 1st night!

I vote for La Quinta! They have refrigerators, microwaves, free parking, and a warm breakfast!

We just booked a kids suite at the Portofino for $90 per night in early March. I think the "deluxe" room with 2 Q beds was right at $70. Never been there, but looks nice on their web site and have read good reviews here. It's actually within walking distance, barely, and someone said its the 1st stop on ART when leaving the park. We are going for Easter, and booked the Eden Roc too when I started searching hotels, and got a fantastic deal of $49 through Expedia too. I ended up cancelling it because of the REALLY BAD reviews I found everywhere. I was looking also for something under $70, with free parking, free breakfast, micro-fridge and walking distance, not an easy one. So after cancelling Eden Roc I booked the Quality Inn and Suites which was $77 at the beginning, but then I found a rate of $75 somewhere else (I believe it was easyclick or book it) and so I sent a low rate guarantee claim and they gave me the rate of $75 plus another 10% off so I ended up with a rate of $68 plus tax and a resort fee of $3.15. But lately hubby has been saying that he wants to be closer to the parks, so right now I'm looking at Alpine Inn for $76, Del Sol Inn for $88 (was $110 but if you call they give you 20% off a 3+ night stay), Desert Inn for $102 or Ramada Plaza for $76 (no breakfast here). I'm waiting for Park Vue Inn to see if they come out with the 20% off promotion that they have now for January bookings, as this would be my first choice right now. I haven't decided yet, since the Quality Inn is still the cheapest, and now Hojo for me either as it is $139. From all of the above I can't recommend anything since this will be our first time in DLR (we're WDW vets), but maybe someone else can help you here.

I stayed at Eden Roc March 2008. It was AWFUL!

I would run from this place -- cancel your reservation. I promise you won't be sorry.

I posted this review here once before, so I just copied it again -- in case you haven't read it yet.

I booked 3 hotel rooms here for me and my extended family. The hotel was actually named Parkside Inn & Suites at that time. I booked the hotel through hotels.com for $39 per room. The rooms had a mini fridge and they served a continental breakfast. The reviews were BAD, but it was within walking distance and I thought -- who cares?? I am only going to be sleeping here!

We checked in and we were horrified. The people in the room next to us had just gone to bed and found bugs all over their sheets. They were packing up their luggage to leave as fast as we were unpacking ours for our stay.

My mother-in-law called my cell phone from her room to tell me NOT to open the fridge. Their were bugs crawling around in her fridge.

We were stuck. We had already paid for 6 nights through hotels.com, and I couldn't believe we were going to have to sleep here for that long. The lights in our room didn't work (except for a small one by the bed), so I never got to REALLY check out the cleanliness of the room. The continental breakfast was a joke that was only served until 7:00 AM!

I ran down to the lobby (the only place with wi-fi connection) and spent a while booking a new hotel on hotwire.com for only $60/night. It was the 3 star Holiday Inn & Suites and was completely awesome. Then, I spoke for over an hour to a customer service rep at hotels.com trying to cancel the reservation for all 3 rooms and get a refund.

We did end up sleeping there that night. I hardly slept. I was sure I had bugs crawling all over me. My socks were black on the bottom from walking on the carpet. Traffic noise was awful and our outside door didn't lock securely. I was never so happy to get out of there.

I promise it was not worth any amount of saved money to be in a place like that!

Definitely look at the motel 6 info. They just redid it, and it looks really cool!


If using a blind booking site like hotwire or priceline, make use of sites like betterbidding dot com, so you can have a strong idea of what you're about to book. With their help, I booked a hotel that I was sure was either the HIlton or the Hyatt, b/c of the description and area...both had parking fees, but no resort fees, and we would have a car so I needed to know that. By reading betterbidding thoroughly and then going slow through the booking process, I knew what I was gettnig, and did get the Hilton at 50ish a night. Considering I had had the motel 6 booked for 54, I was cool with changing to the HIlton.


You might also check out hotels dot com. I've been using them quite a bit for hubby's work travel, and they haven't failed us yet!

We stayed at the Eden Roc over 15yrs ago and it was low budget then. I would change my reservations is I were you. We have stayed at Hojos, Candy Cane and the Carousel and all of those are way better than Eden Roc. There are so many other places to choose from.

Someone posted about good rates at Peacock Suites. We stayed there last summer and it was wonderful! So clean, nice, good beds, nice staff, decent cont. bkfst, etc. The only negatives were the small pool, which we didn't really need anyway, and it is a bit too far to walk. But it's a quick drive if you have a car or you can use ART, it picks up right in front of the hotel. I'd definitely stay here again.

Take a look at www.bwmeridian.com its a bit further out and you need the ART shuttle, but they have good rates and its got good ratings on tripadvisor.

There's also the super 8 on katella. We stayed there last april and it was around $50/night. They have free breakfast (cereal, doughnuts, juice and coffee) and free parking. They were close enough for us to walk. It's not the closest hotel but we walked with no problem. The downside is that there is no microwave and we had requested a fridge but once we got there they said they didn't have one available so you can't count on a fridge either. It's right next door to the Gardenwalk if you're looking for some restaurants outside the parks.

Never stayed at the Eden Roc, but it is directly across from my favorite hotel to stay at whilst at DLR (Stovall's Best Western), and it looks . As in, semi-abandoned-looking at night, and with...shady characters often hanging around in the day. Last summer, my Dad & I were in the pool at Stovall's & witnessed a lady who appeared to be homeless & mentally ill screaming obscenities to no one in particular in Eden Roc's parking lot, until police officers came & took her away. I'm assuming there's no/inadequate security at that hotel, as it wasn't the first time I'd seen something like that happen there. The hotel also appears somewhat rundown & doesn't look like an appealing place to stay. If you're on a budget & can't get the Entertainment rate at Hojo's, I'd suggest the Anaheim Plaza hotel. It's an older hotel, but during my many stays there I've always found it to be clean and safe. You can usually save around $10 a night by booking through their website rather than over the phone, as well

I didn't even know the Eden Roc existed anymore. I remember staying there with my family on our first ever trip to DL and that was in 1976! I recall that it wasn't the greatest back then. I agree with some of the other posters. Check into Motel 6 and Anaheim Plaza. You might be able to find some bargain rates for much better hotels.
