My ds8 was just evaulated for OT and now has to go 1x a week, She said i need to think about getting him tested for a learning disability, Does the school do this or do i have to take him someplace eles? I am at a loss of what to do.any ideas?
Thanks,
Kim

You can request the school system to do this and they have to. Has he shown any signs of learning problems? They may ask why you want him tested so be prepared for that. BUT, they must test him if you request. Free of charge.

Yes,The teacher is the one who suggested i take him to an OT to be evaluated because of his handwritting, They said at the evaluation, he needs to be evalueted for a learning disabilty.and needs OT too.

The teacher that told you that your son should be tested - should be the one to initiate the testing. Talk to the teacher and tell her you want the testing done (if you do??) and she "should" communicate with the appropriate people to make that happen. Should be the same thing that happened with the OT evaluation. Somebody at the school coordinated it, right?

no, i had to call my dr to get a referral for the ot. but i will go through the school because it was his teacher who made the suggestion.

Send a letter in writing to your childs school requesting an evaluation for learning disabilities. Keep a cop for yourself. They should have paid for the OT evaluation. School should be providing the OT. It should not cost you OOP.

yes...keep a copy of EVERYTHING you send and a record of every phone call, conversation, etc.... and the school should do the testing!! Good luck!!!

yes, you should be able to do it through the school or city. My daughter has developmental delays and she got an evaluation and they re-evaluate her at school also.
