On back to back mornings, I have a res. for Akershus Royal Banquet Hall with the princesses as the character breakfast; and on the next day, I have a res. at Kona, which I have heard nothing but raves.

My dilemna is, I only have 1 TS meal plan left at that point, plus, I would like to do a day split between AK and DTD and neither of these are conducive.

I'm travelling with my girlfriend and this is her first trip. So I tried to scoop up as many character meals as possible (I got a dinner at Crystal Palace the night of out MVMCP). We don't have any children, so I don't think missing out on the princess brreakfast would be huge. This trip is a surprise gift to her, so I can't ask her opinion.

I need help, opinions and (if a miracle should happen) have a Chef Mickey res. open up on either of those days. Than I can cancel them both.

Keep the Kona reservation, and pay OOP if you need to. I know you want your friend to experience the character buffets, but I think the food is better at Kona. Why not go to breakfast at Kona, take the monorail to MK and take the bus to AKL.

Another vote for Kona, I am kind of in the same situation, as it is my new DH first visit to the world. I had a reservation to CRT, and asked him if he really wanted to eat there, and he said no due to the food, so I let him choose what to replace it with. Curious as to what he choose? Kona.

Go with Kona!

I would keep Kona.

I wasn't impressed with Akershus and LOVE Kona.

However, if Chef Mickey's opens up, that would be best IMHO.

is no longer a character meal---mickey only greets you at the front as you enter the restaurant...the characters don't come around to your table anymore! you didn't ask about this one, but, i've heard that tusker house in AK is good!

Kona is awesome! So yum. It's not very expensive, so PP is right, you could just pay OOP for it. Splitting the Big Kahuna platter and a pot of pressed coffee you would probably both be full :) Even if you get 2 entrees and drinks, etc, it's still one of the cheaper options at WDW.

that was an unsuccessful trial run. People were not too please so they went back to the old way according to alot of people on here that have been to CM lately.

I don't think this is correct. A few weeks ago, they did a test where Mickey didn't come around -- he took pictures with guests at the front then the remaining Fab 5 came around to the tables, but the reports are that they only did that a few days and Mickey is back to greeting you at the table along with the rest of the Fab 5.
