Hi all, today I went to our local FYE and tried to sell some used DVD's since I need some cash. The guy there gave me major attitude and said "we don't do that this time of year, we can't be bothered." I was upset, he didn't need to tell me in such a way, he could have been nice about it.

But now my dilemma - I want to try and find someplace to sell back my used DVD's but not FYE since they were nasty. I tried a google search but it only gave me some websites, I really hoped to do in person so I can get cash.

Any suggestions??? :confused3

We have a Cash Converters near us and I think they buy DVDs. I know they sell them. Another option would be Craigslist or Ebay.

Craigslist.org is a great way to get rid of your CD's and DVD's, and it doesn't cost you a dime. I have sold a few things on there and it has always been a great way to get a little extra cash.

Thank you so much for the ideas!!! :goodvibes

Any more ideas out there?? I'm trying to sell my DVD's to help pay toward my Disney trip next summer ;)

what is your deadline for the money? I mean it sounds like you should take the time to investigate the best deal for yourself.

MIkeeee

Do you have a GameStop or Re-Play Games in your area? I love going to game stores in search of used DVD's, I can always find good deals there! Also, The Record Exchange in my area also buys used DVD's. Good luck!!!!!

A few years ago, I would have said eBay.. Now? Never! Too many new rules; Paypal allowing payment reversals; higher listing fees; less traffic since they shot themselves in the foot; feedback issues; money being held back by Paypal; etc..

I would go with Craigslist.. Doesn't cost you anything to advertise them and you can sell them in "lots" if you choose to.. No packing; no shipping; no advertising fees; no waiting for auctions to close; and most importantly, no buyer making complaints to Paypal that result in you losing money..

We have had amazing luck with everything and anything on Craigslist.. Never had a "no-show"; (pick up hours are only when DD's DH is home or her FIL is present (he's here every single day) - but you can make arrangements for your DH or someone to meet them in a public area if you would feel safer; we always get the price we want; and it's always in cash.. :) You wouldn't believe the amount of things we have sold that way (way more than I ever sold on eBay) - and of course, we have sold huge items that just wouldn't be practical to sell on eBay - even if they never became as annoying and greedy as they are now..

If that doesn't appeal to you, someone on the BB has mentioned a place called Secondspin.com - but I'm not sure how it works..

What about amazon.com??? I've been selling books (new and used), videos, DVDs, CDs and Nintendo DS games on there for years now. There are no listing fees (like Ebay) or Paypal fees because amazon directly deposits your earnings into your checking acct.

Yes, they do take a certain percentage of the sale if you sell your item but you just take that into account when listing your item. You have nothing to lose, but your old DVDs..:thumbsup2 (now is a great time to list them too!)

They give you a shipping allowance and since mostly everything can go media mail it's very easy to ship anything you sell so you don't have to be bothered dealing with anyone in person.;)

I use eBay and Craigslist. Both work great for DVDs, especially this time of year.

also buys used dvd's..I know they sell them, and I keep seeing a link for 'sell your dvd's'..but have never used it myself..I always buy used cd's from them, but have never tried one of their dvd's

Thank you everyone so much for your help!!! I was thinking of amazon.com so I think I'll give it a try over there.

I have no real deadline to have the money, I was just thinking this time of year I would have a better chance at making more since people buying presents and all!!

I would do craigslist, however I do not have a DH, the only male in our family lives 300 miles away from us, so I don't see that happening, I get nervous about online deals that you need to meet someone face-to-face, even when I am carrying my pepperspray ;)

But anyhow, thanks so much for all your help, and I'll give amazon a try!!

Yes. Amazon is a very good place to do it. So is Half.com. I've sold on both sites for years (though not much lately).

You can sometimes get quite a bit more money from selling dvd's online than you can selling to some second hand shop. Their main purpose is to shaft the seller so they can make a bigger profit from selling at a much higher rate.

Good advice here about dumping your discs. I'm a bit puzzled by the attitude at the FYE store. CD sales are on the decline, I'm not sure DVD sales are much better. That might explain why they weren't interested in buying your stuff, but to give you the 'tude over how busy they are? Sounds like a sales clerk having a bad day, or life.

SecondSpin is great!!!...I've sold cds and dvds to them for years!!! last year I shipped off a box of both and got over $100!!! They generally pay out pretty good for stuff..and they send you back what they can't take...It's a really great system...

I don't know if anything like CD Warehouse exists where you live but its a chain that buys back used dvds...

I've also sold some CDs and DVDs to SecondSpin and they've accepted everything I've sent. They also pay you for your shipping if you use media mail - although for me, that's resulted in a very slow delivery (since they're in CA and I'm in CT). But I still like them - very easy!
