Need Help w/ St Mart. excursion

We (DW and myself) are only going to do one excursion this time we have decided on St Mart. day. What would your suggestion be? We don't want to do the Regatta but all other reccomendations are welcome.

We wanted to tour the island, but not pay the excursion price, or be subject to unwanted/long stops....just wanted to get a taste of the island. We walked the streets until we found some taxi's we liked and then started the bidding.....Mattias took us on a wonderful 2 hour tour for $40 (four of us!) He was a careful driver, took us to nice shopping at a lookout point, stopped when/where we wanted, gave us a view of both sides that only someone on the island could....a fantastic tour guide who answered all questions. Don't look at just the excursions, you might find something on your own cheaper...

This is not a reccomendation but just a review.
We did this excursion:

French Riviera Beach Rendezvous*
Transfer to Orient Bay and relax on 1 1/2 miles of sandy beach. When guests arrive, they'll be welcomed with a complimentary drink, a delicious lunch, and a reserved beach chair. The cost is $45 per adult (10 and up)and $35 per child (ages 3-9).

The trip over to Orient Bay was an eye opener allowing you to see astute poverty to overly rich.
The rum punch and lunch was good.

Warning: The * designates this excursion as a clothing optional experience. There was not a lot of nudity but as the young lady sitting beside us said "You don't see things like this in Iowa."

I don't know that we would do this excursion again but it was fun one time.
