I was working 1 of my part time jobs. I started at the end of Sept. I worked 2 days a week everyother week and 3 the oppisite. well I ran into a situation I have never been in before.
I have been going thru being "sexual harrassed". (sp) and I gave my notice for Nov 6th. and I gave him a lame excuse whhy I was leaving. I was not planning on telling anyone(but the other secratary knew about it) he just called me to tell me he does not NEED me anymore they found someone else! and this is after I gave a notice LAST week! I thought if you give a notice they just cannot do this!

the Vice president called me and told me they will pay me. I ened up telling the truth to him WHY I was leaving........

what do I do now?? I am shaking! I have never been thru this....nor did I ever think it would happen to ME!

any advice??

Most companies across the nation employ their staff 'at will'. That means the employer can let you go at any time, for no reason supplied.

That's the same for you- you can leave when you want, how you want, and not have to give notice.

I'm glad the company is still paying you, but they had every right not to.

Now the harassment, that's a different issue. If you had documentation/witnesses/etc to back your story up then you should have no problem. Unforunately without any of that, their lawyer will most likely paint you as a disgruntled ex-employee out to get revenge. I'm sorry that this happened to you - nobody should ever have to deal with crap like that...

Good luck!

Unless you have a contract, most jobs are "at will" and you can be let go of at any time, for no reason. Some jobs will let people go after they have given notice to prevent any theft/mischievous behaviour.

If you were leaving anyway, and they are still going to pay you, and you don't want to persue the sexual harrasment, I'd say take the money and run.

P.S.- I know you weren't specifically asking about the sexual harrasment, but please consider persuing it further, even if it's just "in company". You may not have been the first, and if he's getting away with it, you probably won't be the last.

thanxs, I was not going to persure the harrassment thing. this was the reason for my notice, which the other secratary knew about. she is an older women and she knows how nasty he gets to people. he has a temper! I think he found out WHY I gave my notice and that ticked him off. after my 2 weeks notice the only action I was going to take was to write a complaint to the home office. just to let them know WHY I left. the vice pres. knows my family- my mom worked for him for 12 years! and my boss "BOB" is just a sleaze ball!

We do this also. Why have someone there for two weeks whose heart is not in the job. We'll pay any accured vacation time and wish them luck, but "please do not report to work and give us your key."
