Hi, we would like to go to Hilton Head next summer (with 2 kids, 6 and 3 by then). I have HH points and I can reserve a 1-br for 5 nights for July 4th week. It would take 130 pts. Or I am considering renting from a Grand Ocean owner to stay at there for a week around that time or maybe the week before.

For those of you who have stayed at both, which one do you think is a better resort in terms of for families who are not into golf and the offerings for activities for young children?

Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.:D

I own both DVC (OKW & BW) and Grande Ocean. I have also stayed at HH DVC. Both are great resorts but I much prefer GO because of the beach front location and it's position on the Island. GO only has 2 BR units so the cost there will be more than at DVC. You should be able to rent from an owner for around $1800-2000 for that week. The price through Marriott is $400 or $425 per night plus tax depending on whether it's an Oceanside or Oceanfront view. One caution at GO as it applies also to DVC, especially BW, and that is that the terms OF and OS apply to location and not necessarily the actual view. You could be obstructed but if you rent from an owner, you will have top priority.

We stayed at both and Grande Ocean is very nice, but we love the individual attention from DVC's CMs at HH. I have three kids 6, 10, and 19 and all three prefer Disney. The unbirthday party, Shadow, the pool with the slide, and the fun lifeguards. No, it is not on the ocean, but then I am spoiled. On the ocean to me is walking out the door and on the beach in ten steps or less like my mom's house at Edisto Beach. I suggest that you read other comments about both resorts and decide which is best for you. If you join Timeshare Users Group at www.tug2.net, there are some good reviews for both resorts.

Becky, thanks. I think we will be making a reservation for DVC HH for next July and see what happens. We are not the beach or golf type, but we would like to try HH due to all the great experiences people had. After 5-6 trips at WDW in one year, HH will be a good change of pace.:D

stayed at Disney HHI many times and visited friends at Grande Ocean....lets just say we are staying at Disney again this summer with our three kids..... but really both are beautiful....if you aren't a beach person then go Disney...the only thing Grande Ocean has is that it is right on the beach other than that Disney is the way to go.

I like them both - particularly the atmosphere at DVC, and the beach front location at GO. One thing in GO's favor is that it has Sea Pines privileges - and the bicycle trails there are great.
