OK, so I'm running to Walmart during my lunch break which is soon. I want to purchase everything I need to make my first T-shirt.

What do I need and what area / aisle is it located?

I know I'll be lost trying to find the transfer paper!!!!

Do I need special detergent? Scotch guard?

Anything else???

TIA!

I do know that at the Walmart by us.... the transfer papers are in the office supplies area. I was just there the other day. As far as detergant, i am sure any kind is fine. I don't know about scotch guard, but i would like to know the answer to that as well.

Our transfer paper is located in the office supplies and there are more by the fabric/craft section. I just used our normal detergent with the tshirts, and no scotch guard...hth

Thank you both!

I was reading that some shirts were bleeding / running and some people used scotch guard. :confused3

I also read not to use any fabric softener. I use Tide. Not sure if there is fabric softener in there or not???? :confused3

Can you tell I'm a rookie at this? :rotfl2:

Can I ask what brand T-shirts you used and colors if you had no problems?

I knew you shouldn't use fabric softner, but i would just make sure the detergant did not have it in there. I think i read somewhere that some people got the Hanes shirts at Walmart... that is what i was going to get and try doing my shirts on.

UGH! Just got back from Walmart and naturally, all the Avery dark transfer paper was gone! They only had light ones so I didn't buy any. They did have Hanes little girl T-shirts though, $3.00 each. I really want to do tank tops for DD, but they only had ribbed ones there. I'm going to check Target later.

I guess I'll be hitting another Walmart tonight to find the transfer paper and those darn Hannah Mantana 3-D glasses. The Walmart by my work was out of those too!

SO GLAD you're asking these questions. . . I'm doing the VERY SAME THING right now. . . hoping I have everything I need to get this project underway ASAP!

Wanted you to know that I got the dark transfer paper at Hobby Lobby. They had some off-brand in the fabric section. But over in the craft section where they have fabric paints, they had transfer paper by Hanes. And on the package, it said they have an "Oops" guarantee. If you mess up your shirt, they'll replace it. . . up to 8 shirts a year. I'm hoping not to screw it up but I feel more confident just knowing that Hanes has every confidence that their product is that easy to work with. So I bought the Hanes transfer paper. I printed one transfer but haven't ironed it on yet. I'll let you know how it does. I have nothing to compare it too though since this'll be my first shirt!!!

Thanks to anyone offering advice to sunlover13 because I'm needing the same advice.

I have never had a problem with the running/bleeding, so I have no tips on that at all! I have used the T shirts from Michaels, Walmart, and the Cherokee brand as well. I have used white, blue and grey shirts. We also use Tide, the cold water version of it. I have also used fabric softener after the transfers have been put on the shirts, and washed a few times without any softener. HTH's!

Oooh! I have a Hobby Lobby near me too. I like the "Oops" guarantee too. Maybe I'll wait for you to report on your luck first so you can be the guinea pig. :rotfl2:

Seriously, if you wouldn't mind updating here after you do your shirt, that would be fabulous!
