need help please with trying to do the ssa

Im trying to get my DH ssa with the gov login --I did mine a while ago but I dont remember having to take a selfie among things
his SSA 1099 is the only thing we need to get our taxes done

Im up to the verify ID area and thats were Im stuck
there now asking for a selfie
how do I even do that--I mean I know how to do a selfie but how do i get it to finish his account
Like I said I dont remeber having to do any of this

I looked backed over our papers from last year to see what we sent in-
it looks like he printed his from the SSA website
I got mine in the mail quite some time ago
Id really appreciated it someone could walk me through this in easier to follow words

or does anyone know if there still mailing them out--strange thing I got mine but where is his

It does sound like you are not paperless and he is, no idea how that happened. However, yes to create an account for login.gov you have to send in a selfie. Once you get to that part, they will ask for your mobile phone number. Then they send a link to your phone and you follow the directions from there to take a live selfie (meaning you actually take it, you can’t pick a picture from your camera roll). Once you’ve submitted your selfie, you go back to your computer to complete the rest of the application there.

Yeah, they added extra ID checks recently. The selfie is just through your phone camera, it guides you. They should still mail them, but his might be delayed. Super annoying though.

I slightly remember doing mine I sure don’t remember having to take a pic though. That I would have remembered.
There’s a number you can call. It sounds like it might be all automated to have it sent since your told to say 1099 after it asks “how can I help yiu” I guess we’ll give that a try.

To this part--are you using a laptop/web browser and then questioning how to get the selfie that you take on your phone uploaded?

If that's the question, take the selfie on your phone. Using your phone's email application (which I hope you have set up), attach that selfie to an email and send it to yourself. Access your email via your laptop/browser, check your email, download the selfie file attachment which is usually a .jpg format. On the GOV site then you can upload the file that you just saved.

If you're doing everything via your phone and don't need this, disregard as maybe I didn't understand the question.

If you are responding to me, I am answering the part in your post where you said you had no clue how to get the selfie to your husband's account. Again, maybe I misunderstood what you were asking.

I don't thinks this works, perhaps it used to be ok to upload a pic, but when we did this a few months ago, you HAD to take the picture on a GPS enabled device and it had to be live (no uploading a previous taken picture). If you do not have phone you can do a live interview, just select the I don't have a phone option.

This process is rather convoluted and if it's intimidating, I might suggest just calling SSA. In my experience they have been very helpful and are willing to walk you through all the steps.
