I not sure where to post this. Canadian makes more sense but a whole lot more traffic hits the main board. So hopefully someone will happen to look around the Canadian one...

My friend and I are hitting Disney for 10 days in April. Now I want to book something soon since the dollar is good and all. But I have this fear that the Visa or at Par deals are gonna come out. Can anyone tell me when they came out last year??

Also when you book the room only reservation, how do you go about it? Phone? Internet? Visa? Check? This is my first time ever doing anything like this. And I'm young, like 23, so needless to say the most I've ever done was reserve a one night at a hotel in my provience. So any and I mean any help would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks!!

I would highly recommend going through Dreams Unlimited. It won't cost you anything extra.

You could get a quote from them and if you decide to book something, it can be done over the internet or by phone. You will be assigned a travel agent who will take very good care of you and answer all your questions. If there is a better deal that comes out after you have booked, they will get the discount for you.
You're off to a good start by reading these boards. Lots of helpful and friendly advice.

I can't see a "at Par" deal coming out because of the shape our dollar is in. Not sure about a Visa deal.

Pick which resort you want to stay at- use Disney's toll free #(1-800-828-0228)- If you have CAA ask for that discount- book your reservation. They will take a deposit of one nights stay. If a better deal comes out later you can change your reservation and your deposit will just be applied to the new one.

There's also a Canadian travel agent out there at Dream Come True Vacations, I recommend her and I've seen a few others here on the Canadian board have used her. They do the exact same work at DU, they're just a smaller agency.

Personally, I always book my Disney component through a travel agent and book my flight myself - it's easy to find deals!

There are lots of friendly and helpful people on these boards and you will learn a lot here, also try websites like allearsnet.com for info and pictures!

One thing you should be aware of is that just because you have a reservation at a WDW resort when a "deal" is announced does not mean that you will automatically get the discount. There are usually only a certain number of rooms in each resort that qualify for the discount. So, if there are no rooms at the discount rate left when you actually try to get the discount, you won't get it even if you already have a pre-exisiting reservation at that resort. The point is this: if you make a reservation but are hoping for the anouncement of a discount, you should follow-up right away with Disney (or your travel agent) as soon as you learn about a discount that applies to your travel period to increase the likelihood that you can get it to apply to your reservation. Some travel agents will try to get you the discount without you even having to follow-up with them.

This is what I like about working with a DU TA. They do all the work for you;making phone calls, dining reservations, getting better deals , etc.

DU got us the recent discount. There were no rooms available with the deal for the standard room we booked, but there was for the next type of room. The thing is, even though it normally costs more per night for that upgrade, because of the discount it cost us less per night than our original standard room. Our TA did everything for us automatically.

If you've got CAA or an annual pass, you could let your TA know so that the best discount is available to you.

Lots of decisions to make. Good Luck with your planning.

With the room occupancy they are seeing, an at par deal may not occur - having said that, with the C$ being stronger, an at par deal costs Disney less in terms of lost revenue so they may do an at par deal to get more Canadians down to Florida

How does a TA work? I mean do you pay them or if not how do they get paid? I'm a novice traveller so I have no clue how to go about that kinda thing. And I really can't afford something going nuts :) Do you find TAs to cause any trouble for switiching things if need be? Like noone getting back to you or soemthing? Great responses so far!! Thanks everyone!

Hey Adora!

I took this right off a website:

"How does Dream Come True Vacations get paid?
All travel agencies are paid a commission from their suppliers, in our case, Disney pays a commission on every trip we book. This is taken out of the money that you pay to Disney. After you complete your travel, we are sent a check from the Walt Disney Travel Company. Your local travel agent is compensated the same way (although many charge extra fees due to airlines that don't pay commission, etc)

When you see your credit card statement, it will say that the charges were paid to the Walt Disney Travel Company, NOT to Dream Come True Vacations."

I haven't had to make too many changes with my TA with regards to my current reservation and the one I had previously made with her before, but when I have, it's been no problem, she has always been very gracious and accommodating.

Good luck!
