Need Help Please Re:ebay

I second va32h -- someone hijacked an eBay account but was caught by either eBay or the account holder.

Besides, look at the seller's current and past auctions. The closest they come to eBay motors are vintage Matchbox cars, and only a few things over $100.

I'm surprised the scammer hijacked an account where the person is actively selling; they must be new at it.

I am the seller of Trailer Super Clean 29' Springdale BunkHouse Slide Out ,Item number: 4576038497, and I've just been contacted by the eBay staff who informed me that the winner of the item I sold, withdrew his bidding and was rejected due to security reasons (either failed to follow through on the purchase commitment or outright refused to do so). The eBay policy automatically proclaims you to be the winner by default. Nevertheless, I need your agreement on this so I may contact eBay to confirm you the winning position, otherwise I'll relist the item. I am sorry for the inconvenience, but I need an answer asap. Your last auctioned bid prior to being outbid is taken into consideration. If interested, please email me at: MobileSKTrades@aol.com by including your eBay user ID and Item Number you bid on, to have it officially sealed through eBay. Our transaction will be performed only under eBay's rules and instructions, no exceptions.

This is an e-mail from ebay.

Did you bid on this item? If yes, then it's a legitimate offer from the seller to give you a second chance if the original winner backed out. You are not obligated in any way to accept. If you had no bids on this item, it is a scam.

OK...got the hint...thanks so much for saving my DSIL $2500.00. I did however e-mail the guy back and ask him for a copy of the title and his phone number...see what he does from there. You guys truely are the best!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes we did bid on it....we bid $8500.00 and was outbidded at $8600.00. But it also still says reserve not met so why would he send a second chance offer. Sorry for the stupid questions, but I or my DSIL for that matter have never bought anything that expensive off of ebay before. Thanks again.

Nope - this is a scam too. I am guessing that your 0 feedback ID has you pegged as a new user, and you are getting all the scammers. This was a reserve auction - the reserve was not met, so none of the bidders is the "winner" and none of you are obligated to complete the sale.

The seller is contacting you via ebay's messaging service, but the email is NOT from ebay itself. If you were the true winner of the auction, you would get an email from ebay saying

"Ebay Item Won! And providing the details of your exact bid amount.

So, this is either 1)a total fake seller, contacting all the underbidders of this auction and trying to trick you into thinking you "won" or
2)The real seller, who didn't get his reserve price, and wants to make a deal.

Do not reply to the email address given in the email. Go back to the auction and contact the seller from the "Ask Seller a Question" link on the auction page. Then paste this email into it, and ask if the seller really sent it.

Did you in fact bid on that item? And did it come through as a second chance offer? Basically, that means that the winning bidder did in fact renege on the purchase and the seller is offering it to the person who had the second highest bid.

My Spidey-sense is tingling on this one. I looked up the auction and it just ended less that 4 hours ago today. It could be someone pretending to be the seller (maybe even the same scammer) trying to scam a bidder. Besides, unless the seller has two of the item, I don't think they can offer a second chance until they've gone through the unpaid item filing period, which is about a week.

You can try to contact the seller of the auction through eBay and see if it's legit, but otherwise I'd avoid this one like the plague as well.

ETA: Some of this was typed while others were posting. I would still contact the seller through eBay and let him know that a scam is being attempted through his auction listing. I don't know if there's much he can do, but if I were the seller I would want to know.

Yes, make sure the email came from the seller before doing anything. The original scammer (or someone working with him) has your email address now and could be faking emails to you. They are ruthless and won't leave you alone if they smell easy money.

There are lots of red flags in this email, but this is a huge one. If this email is really from the seller, he has your ebay ID and the item number. And he can send you a "second chance offer" via ebay which is clearly labeled as a "second chance offer".

This is definitely not good advertisement for ebay! Unfortunately, these scammers hit fast and disappear before ebay can find them. And there are so many millions of listings, it's just impossible to monitor.

But I've now decided this is definitely a scam. "Ebay staff" do not contact sellers to tell them that buyers have been rejected for security reasons. Heck, "ebay staff" are nearly impossible to contact!

VA32H is correct. If you are still interested in the item, this is the way to go about it. If not, you are under no obligation to buy as the sellers reserve was not met, and you do not need to reply at all.

gof_coach_1

This is not the seller ID for that trailer. The real seller is sulls66. gof_coach_1 is a seller from Tennessee who hasn't listed anything for sale in the last 30 days.

Sounds like a lot of people got their accounts hijacked, probably from the same scammer.

Unfortunate that you got caught up in this. eBay as a whole is a fine way to buy and sell and most sellers are legitimate and helpful. Unfortunately on high end items, the scammers are lurking because that is where the money is. I would give up and start looking in the paper or trailer dealers. I would also write a detailed email to ebay describing what has happened. They are very appreciative about getting all the info they can about scams and scammers. It's the only way they can try to stop them. Good luck!

OMGoodness...I can't believe this...geez...oh well, I did send an e-mail to sulls66 which is the original seller of the 2001 trailer and I will wait to hear back from him...I will keep you guys updated. Thanks so much for all your help, I really appritiate it. :disrocks:
