We are new DVC members and our first visit is Memorial day weekend at OKW. I arrive with our two sons (5 and 3) on Thursday at 5:00pm. Because of DH work schedule, he can't join us until Saturday a.m. at OKW. What can I do Thursday evening and Friday to occupy our time until DH arrives? I am somewhat reluctant to take boys to the parks myself because of the holiday crowds. Our boys are very active - don't think I'd have enough hands to control them. We're seeing MK when DH arrives, but was thinking about AK on Friday just the 3 of us. Good or bad idea? Thanks for any suggestions. BTW, how are the crowds Memorial day weekend?

I would suggest taking the boat or walking over to Downtown Disney, maybe for pizza, and/or to Disney Quest.

Personally I wouldn't do Disney Quest with 3 and 5 year old alone, I'd do MK first. MGM might be good, you could do Muppets and Bear in the Blue House as well as Little Mermaid. They are sit down shows.

Also you're probably going to need a stroller. I'd suggest a double one. That will cut down on a lot of the running after.

OK, I don't have kids but I would try to attach a wristband or some Kind of identification tag on them with a cell phone number or at least which hotel you are staying. You might just take them swimming at the pool also.

missed the ages - just read that they are active - disney quest might not be a good destination - I think you could handle MGM - I would still go over to DD for dinner Thursday night and then possibly MGM or AK on Friday - or just go swimming, and maybe rent a boat for a while.

I would stay clear of the parks for the first day. I might suggest, hanging out at the main pool area. There are kiddy pools and a beach like area where the kids could have a blast. I assume that your weather has been similar to ours and think that a day in the sun could be very nice.
I might also suggest the boat to downtown, a visit to McDonalds (I think there is a kiddy play area); a visit to the Lego store (There are very large lego statues and play areas) and perhaps to the World of Disney store.
You also might consider a visit to the "Pantry" at Downtown or the OKW General Store to buy someting nice for Momma to enjoy on the porch at her OKW villa after the boys have gone to bed

you don't want to go to Disney Quest in my opinion. I have twins and a single and Iknow about not enough hands...I would go for a lunch at Downtown Disney at McD's, maybe check out the Lego store, it's fenced in for the most part. Boat ride down there sounds good. I wouldn't rent a boat - dealing with jackets, water, no way...I'd spend some quality time in the pool, let them pick out something at a Disney store to play with, and if you can swing a character bfast at Olivia's- that would be great - not sure of the days it's offered off hand.

Here we go...........

'74, '79, '82, '86 - as a "kid"
'00 - BCR & offsite
'01 - VWL (purchase trip!)
10/01 - BW & OKW

MGM is great. Almost everything is a sit down show. DOUG LIVE....Beauty and the Beast...Muppets...Little Mermaid....more.

Or just do the pools. They are great too.

I agree with the boat ride to DD- Lego store is very entertaining, McDonald's is probably familiar to your kids- they just might be missing Dad, and MGM would be the most doable park. JMHO as a mom too.

do you like animals? there is a petting zoo at FW. a poney ride for under a $1.00(I think) and best yet FW is designed for active children they will have fun. Also there is a playground next to the main pool at OKW.

sorry forgot when my nephew was 5 the monrail was consider a ride. especially when one of the CM noticed him and ask if he wanted to ride up front - by then we had rode it around and around for at least an hour. but he had fun.

Thanks for the replys, you've given me some great ideas. I never knew about the petting zoo/play areas, sounds just up our alley. The thought of myself alone with the boys in one of the parks makes me shudder! Do you know the hours at FW?

If you go over to FW, you could also check on campfire story times too. That would be in the evening. If you were there in the evening, you could also watch the electric water parade on the lagoon.

I would take them to AK! But I would be sure to have a double stroller. I took my DD and DS there by myself the last week of March (spring break) when my DH got sick and had to stay in the room. You will have to do a lot of hand holding, but it was sure better than trying to keep them entertained in the room/resort by myself.

AK has a lot of animals to look at, so there will be things to look at while you walk around. They would probably really love Dinoland. The only hard part about the playground is keeping track of them. My DD is a little mother hen and made sure her brother went stayed with her so that my job a little easier.

Think of all the single parents that do this without a second thought!

Good Luck!!
