Hey All
I have never stayed at more than one hotel at disney - but would like to try that for our next vacation. I have a few questions about how to do this?

Do i need to book 2 vacations?
Can i buy the 7 day ticket? How does that work with magic bands? Will i have to wear two bands? one for the second hotel and the first one for the tickets?
Is there a benefit to NOT stay at two hotels price wise?
Will we have to wait days to book dining for the second hotel?
Memory maker? do we have to purchase it twice??

and anything else you might want to tell me!

1. Yes. You will have two separate stays.
2. Bands are not relevant. You can wear any band assigned to you and it should work. As for tickets, be careful about booking packages. YOu have some options:

Both reservations room only, tickets purchased separately
First reservation package with 7 day ticket, second reservation room only or ticketless package (with dining plan)
Both reservations ticketless packages (with dining plan), purchase ticket separately.
You dont mention a dining plan, but two separate reservations means two separate dining plans. Or you can have dining only on one reservation.

3. Price wise, no, the prices will not change for each resort. Unless you choose one resort that is just more expensive than the other. But you won't get a break on a price for a longer stay.

Can't answer the dining booking question or memory maker as I generally do not use those.

What we do:

1. Buy one set of tickets that covers our entire vacation (usually from Undercover Tourist).

2. Book the resort reservations as room only unless we want to do dining plans, in which case Disney requires you to book packages. The packages can be ticketless (you used to not be able to book ticketless packages with dining unless you were booking an AP holder or DVC member reservation. However, I understand that you can now generally book ticketless packages with dining but this must be done over the phone).

3. Make ADRs for each resort reservation starting at 180 days from the first check in date, then at 180 days from the second check in date, etc. (you used to be able to do all of your ADRs starting at 180 days from the first check in date, but generally not anymore).

4. Link your tickets on My Disney Experience, and make FP+ reservations starting at 60 days from the first check in date (these can be made for the entire trip).

5. You will get a set of magic bands for each resort for everyone in your party (unless you opt out). We pick a specific color for each person in our party (mine are all blue, DW's are all red, etc.) so as not to get confused. Each person's bands can be used interchangeably (we bring at least a second band for everyone as a backup).

6. Whatever band (assigned to you) you choose to wear will generally only be active for one resort at a time. So, as I understand it, once you check into your second resort, everyone's bands are no longer usable at your first resort. This can be an issue, for example, if one person takes bags to the second resort and checks in while other family members are still back at the first resort.

7. We use bell services to transfer our luggage on resort transfer days (and then head to a park, etc., as usual).

8. One area that is still somewhat unclear to me is when you have dining plans at both a first and second resort and try to use dining plan entitlements on the transfer day. Obviously, if you haven't yet checked into the second resort, you'll only be able to use credits from the first resort. But, I'm not sure about the situation where you still have credits left over from the first resort and have checked into the second resort. In that situation, I'd guess the credits would come off the second resort stay since that is now the active resort. In any event, I'd try to avoid this situation by using all of my first resort's credits before checking into to the second resort.

The most difficult aspect for me is the discount game. I try to hold out to book my reservations until after room discounts come out (assuming they do) because waiting can only help my odds of a discount (plus, I don't have to call back later to try to apply a discount). But, because I have my heart set on a specific combination of resorts, I'd rather have a reservation at rack rate than not get one at all. So I have to constantly monitor Disney's website to see how my intended resorts are filling. If room categories start to fill up at a particular resort, I'll go ahead and book that resort at rack rate (I'll still try to later apply a discount if/when it comes out).

You could still use dining credits from the first stay even after checking into the second resort. The dining credits from the first resort will expire the end of the day you check out of that resort.

Yes, this is true. But I'm not sure what the default is if I have credits left over from the first resort, I've checked into the second one and I, say, try to use my magic band for a snack credit or meal entitlement. If I want to use credits from my first resort, do I have to do something proactive since the second resort is presumably now my active resort?

Just did this in July and the bands worked great throughout the trip. However, one little glitch occurred and it may not be of any concern to you. We were two couples sharing a reservation and wanted our charges put on two separate credit cards. Our first resort was happy to arrange that for us and everything worked fine. However, when we switched resorts we didn't even ask them if that action would carry over and, unfortunately, it did not. At the end of our second stay all our charges were on the same card--mine. So when switching resorts you might want to make sure everything is switching like you want it to.

You could get separate bands for each resort stay and then it wouldn't be an issue.

Separate bands don't matter. All bands work the same.

You need to make sure you tell the cashier or server which room account they need to take the dining credit from and make sure they understand it's coming from the first account.

Things like that don't carry over between reservations, even if the reservations are consecutive. According to Disney's system you will still have 2 entirely separate reservations. The second resort won't have any idea what you did at the first resort. You'll have to ask the second resort to set up your account the way you want it.

thanks guys! now just to decide which other resort we want to go to. I am obsessed with staying at the polynesian
