Hi a friend of mine gave me fresh strawberries but they are already starting to mold. How do I store these to prevent this? Thanks

I never wash them until I'm ready to eat them--to avoid excess moisture. Also, if you can store them in the fridge in a colander or some type of receptacle with good air flow--it will prevent molding. You can even spread them out on a plate so they're not touching and that will prevent molding.

Fresh strawberries should always be eaten within 3 days. They just don't last longer than that. I suggest doing a search on freezing them.

This is probably too late to help you now, but in case you need something for the future. I bought a Tupperware container that's called FridgeSmart. It's to store raw vegetable and fruit before you wash them. My sister had a Tupperware party and I was skeptical, but I decided to try it out. I put some strawberries in there a little more than a week ago and they are still great. No mold and no soft spots. I haven't tried anything else yet, but the consultant said she has stored a fresh lettuce head in the container for a month before.

Definitely agree - we picked so many strawberries and they lasted over a week (with zero mold). The advice above is what I found on the web and used this time around with great results.

I have to admit that if I'm not eating them quickly, I pour sugar on them and put them in the freezer. Yummy!

i would take all the ones that aren't moldy and make freezer jam with them. You buy a package of freezer jam pectin, moosh the berries and put them in a container.

We did the same thing last weekend. We picked about 20 quarts...we have 10ish in the freezer waiting to be shortcake next winter :) and i made 2 batches of jam as well as a yummy strawberry pie for DH.

This stuff is amazing! My strawberries - even really ripe ones - keep for a week or so. You can find it on e-Bay for a bait cheaper than you would pay at a Tupperware party.

I use my food saver storage canisters for berries I know can't be eaten in two days...

The storage containers, when properly sealed, keep the berries fresh 7-8 days.

Similar to the Tupperware, QVC has a line of plastic storage called Lock and Lock. It's amazing and keeps fruit fresh for weeks. My ripe strawberries last at least 9 days in there.
