I will be attending the Eagle Scout ceremony for a friends son later today. What is an appropriate gift? I have girls and haven't run into Boy Scout protocol until now.

Thanks!

$25 or $50 gift card, depending on how close you are to the Scout/family. For my BFF's sons I bought leather passport holders for their future college travel and put a $50 gift card inside, but usually I would just do gift cards alone. If you know in time there are also several Scout related gifts - money clips, etc.

I do have a DS and have been down this road numerous times. My DS was in scouts, although, he did not become an Eagle Scout, we went to many ceremonies. It's a personal choice as to give a gift or not...."technically", being invited to a ceremony does not require a gift and many people just gave cards. If you choose to give a gift, we saw most people gave something scout related and went to the local Boy Scout council. If time is of the essence and you would like to give a gift, a GC is a good way to go.

There is really no expectation of gifts for an Eagle award. Both our sons (as well as DH) are Eagles. And we've been very active in their scout troop, so have attended many Eagle courts.

Generally, a "congratulations" card is sufficient.

That said, a few people do give gifts. It's entirely a personal choice. Our sons received Eagle themed items (pocket knife, Eagle ring, playing cards with eagles on them, pen set with Eagle emblem), as well as cash/gift cards - anywhere from $5.00 to $25.00.

If you know what his Eagle project was, you could give him something related to that, or make a donation to the cause it supported.

I've got an Eagle Scout and another who's almost there, so we've been to many ceremonies over the years. The boys have received gifts that are Scout related, gift cards, cash, depending on how well the are know by the giver. We have a large Troop, so I'm sure plenty of people bring their son to support the Eagle, but don't alwys bring a gift. Our standard if $20 (teens always like cash:) but may get a more personal gift if it's one of their good friends. The Eagle will be greatful for your support, no matter what!
