Need help - MASSIVE amounts of weight to lose

Well, I hope it's OK to be posting here - and jumping in so rudely. I've been trying to catch up with this post all day, and decided to jump in.

I've got over 100 pounds to lose - something like 110. I'd like to get it done by Christmas next year, but I know that might not be do-able. We've got one DCL cruise coming at the end of this Sept, and then one for next year end of October. I'd REALLY like to look GOOOOOODDDD for that next one. But, mostly, I'd just like to be healthy and not-so-self conscious, and happy to be in family pictures and not the fattest in the room. I'm so worried about the example I'm setting for the kids.

I can start weight watchers in two weeks when the kids go back to school, but I'm not waiting. Today I weighed myself and started eating right. While I can't really count points or anything yet - there's no more coke and horrible choices allowed in this house. I've done WW before, so I have an *idea* of what I should be eating, but I know I need to do the meetings and stick to the plan. So, I'll be checking in here on this thread for the next few weeks to keep me on track. Then, I'll join WW and start my own journal, too.

Wish me luck. I'm determined, but unsure of myself. I just can't wait to lose this weight.

Good Afternoon!

Hope everyone had a great weekend! It's cooler here than it has been, thankfully...couldn't harldly stand it. Tomorrow is my weigh in day, at home no meetings for me, last week I was at the 200 mark and I'm excited and nervous about weighing in. So keep your fingers crossed for me.

Ashley- You are awesome! What an amazing feat to undertake! I'm on my way to the website next. BTW, I didn't know that you homeschooled. We just started our 8th year last Monday :) Don't be worried the elder board you are going to do great. Remember they are people.

Vern- I don't think my thighs have ever 'not' touched. That is superb!!:cool1:

Carol- We will be staying at the WL (in 160 days :woohoo: ) Maybe we can work on a Dis meet

LaLaroo- All good things come to those who wait, no weight loss is better than weight gain. I'm sure next week will be great :thumbsup2

2Princes- Congratulations on your decision to get healthy! Hopefully you will stay around here longer than two weeks until your meetings start. Everyone here is terrific, they bring you in and treat you like you've been here since the start of time. A wonderful group they all are indeed. :grouphug: You can do anything you set your mind too, and I have faith in you :yay:

I'll let you know what tomorrows outcome is...hopefully one-derland, if not, I know I've made great choices this week and am feeling great!

2Princes & 1 Princess-- Welcome! We are glad to have you along for this journey! I am on the verge of having lost 75 pounds, and I remember being on the other side of needing to lose 100 when I first started my program and it seemed a trifle overwhelming:scared1: . Christmas of 2008 gives you what, like 16 months? Even if you don't hit the 100 loss mark by then, can you imagine how close you'll be able to get?:goodvibes

Carol--congrats on 2 more pounds gone! :woohoo: & thanks for checkin' out the website. Yeah, he's a cutie, huh? And he knows it, thanks to the fact that everywhere we go, people flock to him to say "Oh, you're a cutie!" He's a huge flirt--he makes these eyes at people--ohmygosh!

Splash (AKA Alice in ONEderland!!! you go girl!)--a fellow homeschooler! :) when DD12 started in 1st grade, we did University Model Schooling, which is where they go on campus 2 days a week, and then 3 days at home. Actually, at her age it was just 2 half-days, when she did History, Nature Studies, PE, Art, Music, and we did all Language Arts & Math at home. We did that for 3 years, and then did 4th & 5th grade straight-homeschooling. DS8 did the UMS thing for 1st grade but did the reverse, where he did Language arts & Math at school, and we did everything else at home, plus we also did LA/Math homework, and LA/Math lessons on Fridays at home.

This past year, I just needed a year off. I never fully recovered from the crazy year of building the house & then immediately finding out I was pregnant, and we figured I needed some time to see how all of Mason's therapy was going to fit into our lives. But we had a really, really bad experience w/ our public schools here. I'm really looking forward to getting back into it. I missed the kids while they were at school all day, then they got home during the most hectic part of the day, when the two little ones were at their post-nap neediest, and mom's rushing to get dinner ready, etc.

BTW--I got a book on Epcot for homeschoolers on Ebay. It goes into each of the countries in the WOrld Showcase; we'll be using it for Social Studies--so cool!:cool2:

Also--have you stayed at WL before? Our budget won't allow for a whole stay there, but we're thinking of maybe the last two nights of our stay. DS8, my explorer, is gonna be in heaven!

Hope everyone else is having a great week so far. Take care Minnie Sistahs!!!:grouphug:

Hi Sistahs,

I had a very productive day today AND it is finally a little cooler. It's actually quite nice outside tonight. I'm so looking forward to fall.

Ashley - Yes, it's true, I'm a Redskins fan and I can't ever root for the Cowboys, ever, ever, ever! But, I can be friends with Cowboy fans. :flower3: Besides, you have to have some sympathy for me, because the Cowboys have been beating up on the Redskins for quite some time now.

2Ps+1princess: - :welcome: This is a great thread and we love having new people join us. I have over 100lbs to lose as well, but right now, I'm just looking at getting the first 10lbs off. I'm doing WW online and have also done the meetings, so I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have about the program.

LaLa - I hate the no loss weeks, but they are better than the weight gain weeks. Hopefully you'll have an extra nice loss next week.

Splash - WL is at the top of my list, along with the Poly, to stay at someday. Right now, I'm choosing more frequent trips to Disney over saving up for a Deluxe :rolleyes1 , but I might have to get a part time job once my kids are in elementary school (half day kindergarten this year), so I can live the dream. :cloud9:

Vern - Yup, the doughnuts we got on Sat. were freshly baked and still warm and just oozing cinnamon suger/apple cider goodness. I'd never had these before I moved to Winchester, VA a couple of years ago, but now they are my absolute most favorite treat. Can you tell by the way I gush about them???:rotfl:

Gotta go see who is being eliminated from "So You Think You Can Dance".

Carol

Hey Carol -- thanks for the offer. I'm not sure if I'm asking too much, and if I am, just tell me to wait the two weeks. I actually had a hard time today figuring how much to eat/not eat. If you have the literature - would you mind telling me how much someone that weighs (ugh, gah!!! I can't believe I'm revealing this in print) 247.5 should be getting in points? I know when I start the meetings, I'll have access to all that, but I could really use a guideline for my two solo weeks. If it's not OK to share, I completely understand....

Welcome 2Princes/1Princess:flower3: Glad to have you with us. I am doing WW too. I have an older version of the points system, but it seems to work for me. I go just by the points, I don't add the activity points and all that. I have to drop 2 points per day once I lose another pound (hopefully this week!!!). According to my stuff you would get 28 points per day. Start there and see how it goes.

Carol-I sooo want a doughnut now, although it is not the right time of year for them. I have to wait until the weather cools and they have fresh pressed cider to wash those yummy delights down with!

Splash-send you pixie dust and happy thoughts:wizard: :cloud9: for your WI tomorrow. Let us know how you make out. I bet you make it to ONE-derland!!!

LaLaRoo-well even though you did not lose, you didn't gain either. Still success!

I seem to be retaining water or something cause my scale has had me up (at times quite a bit) since my awesome weigh in last Thurs. I am trying to drink more water-I don't drink enough on the weekends (water that is:rotfl: ) so I think it is taking its toll. I am religious with the exercise-like it or not, it gets done. I am sticking to plan and hoping that the scale will be where it needs to come Thursdays WI.

To the football fans-DH is a Colts fan (he was happy last year!) and I don't really have a favorite team, I just like watching (at least I am not a Giants fan-then we would have a problem!!)

Well I am off to bed. Another date with the treadmill at 6am!

I weigh almost exactly the same. I was 243 at my home WI this morning. The online program has a little quiz you can take and then it tells you the points you get. I'm at 29 points daily, plus 35 flex points that I can use whenever I want during the week. Do you have a points calculator? If not, you can pm me for some points info. I think one of the best things you could do for the two weeks before you start WW officially is to start writing down everything you eat and start drinking at least 64 oz. of water daily. That will sort of prepare you for eating better.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Carol

Good Morning, Ladies!

Welcome 2Princes & 1 Princess! Good luck on your journey to lose weight. Set small goals for yourself so you don't get overwhelmed at the big number. I found doing this has helped keep me motivated and on track. When I used to focus on the big number I just set myself up for failure. I would get so discouraged if I didn't lose enough and then just give up. These ladies here are wonderful and offer great support and motivation so please keep posting even after your two weeks.

I am almost done with the NutriSystem food so next week I will be starting WW. It has been so long since I have done WW so I may need to pick your brains about certain things.

Splash how did the weigh in go? :rolleyes1

Thanks Ladies for all the support on the no loss week. Hopefully next week will be better!

Have a great day everyone!

Oh and by the way there is no better football than STEELERS football! :cheer2: (Hey I'm from Pittsburgh and you better be a Steelers fan if you know whats good for you. I think they program you at birth :rotfl: )

Thanks to both of you. Now that I have an idea, the points will be easier to track. I don't have a calculator- but I've got enough info online to make it through the weeks.

I definitely will start with the water and writing, too. That's an excellent suggestion.

I already feel so much better about this task, just having you girls to bounce things off of and cheer me on!

Well, my fridge got a HUGE makeover today - for the much healthier! :)

I went to Publix and got all the foods that are good to eat, lots of organic fruits and veggies, and I am ready to get this show on the road.

Thanks to suggestions from this board, I went to sparkpeople, and I really love their tools. I can see where that is going to be a big help. Does anyone know if you can set up the food counter to count WW points?

My fridge is so gorgeous, I almost want to take a pic. It looks like healthy eaters live here now.

Good Afternoon Everyone!

I did the weigh in today and I lost 2lbs! :woohoo: So I've lost 8lbs in the two weeks I've been at this! Yes, One-derland I have arrived! I now have 48lbs to go! Under 50lbs left :yay:

Ashley - Your website is fantastic! And your son is such a darling! I would end up spoiling him rotten because I couldn't say no that little face!

We are using Christian Liberty Academy, have always used that. We do have a good variety of publishers, Christian Liberty Press, A Beka, Bob Jones Press, and of course our all time favorite Saxon math. We also have the support group for field trips and things and my DS started playing the violin in June:charac2: I'm going to check into the homeschool book for Epcot. That sounds good, Epcot is not my DS first choice at WDW

Yes, we have stayed at the WL before, only once though, this past Jan. Our DS didn't come with us that time, he said the 345 miles in the car was too long! The WL has become my DH favorite. When in the beginning stages of planning our upcoming trip he said 'you do know to book our stay at the WL don't you?' I couldn't argue, because it's fabulous! And who would turn down a deluxe hotel at WDW???

Thanks to all of you for your support this week. It sure makes this much easier to do when you can share it with those who care and understand:grouphug:

2Princes~ I am cheering you on! :cheer2:

Splash-- :woohoo:  :woohoo:  :woohoo:
That's "MinnieSistah" for "You go girl!!!" Didja' just look at that scale and say "And there is NEVER going to be a 2 in that spot again!!!"

Here's the Epcot book info for ebay: seller--dcscte ; the seller is actually the author of the book. there is one ending in around 9pm tonight (Tuesday), so far no bids, starting bid .01, shipping $8. I just got mine in the mail, and it's really great. It has a unit on every country in the world showcase, including the African outpost, and the Futureworld attractions, so we will be using it for Social Studies and some of our science, art (as there are art/craft projects in the world showcase section), and I'm going to find international music to go with each unit.

2P & 1princess: -- hey, would you come clean my fridge, too??? Nuttin's wrong with my fridge that a really good BONFIRE wouldn't fix.:rotfl2: It's about 11 years old, because I don't believe in replacing anything that still works, but it's the fridge that DH and I bought when we were DINKs, and w/ a family of 6 it's woefully inadequate. We have a 2nd fridge in the garage that's nice & clean--gift from my stepmom's new hubby, he hardly ever used it as a bachelor. I really want that 3 door amoire fridge w/ the freezer on the bottom-prrrrrrrrow!

DS2's check up is tomorrow. We're going to discuss whether he has Celiac disease, which after keeping him gluten-free for a few weeks, I really think that's what's going on, in addition to lactose intolerance. Please pray for clarity (and sanity!) for me. I've dealt w/ DD3s peanut allergy for the last 2 years, so God has already given me the skillset to deal w/ food issues. I originally thought that we could just keep Mason off of wheat, but now I'm realizing it's much more complicated than I thought. If I eat a sandwich and then feed him a gluten-free cracker without washing my hands, the gluten in my bread transfers to his cracker and he has a reaction. It's not like the peanut reaction, which can be immediate and fatal, but what happens is the body sloughs off the villi that line the intestine, which means the body can't absorb nutrients (which explains why Mason is tiny, even by Down syndrome standards). The real problem is that the body takes time to repair itself, and during that time he isn't getting the nutrition he needs (not to mention the diaper issues, which I won't go into... ). He will need a dedicated toaster & dedicated breadmaker, plus foods like jelly, because when you put the jelly on your toast and then put the knife back in the jar for more, you put breadcrumbs in it, stuff like that.

It really seems that the best thing for Mason would be for the whole house to go gluten-free. I hate to ask the older kids to give up some of their favorite foods, but maybe once we get a groove going, we can find ways to better control the environment, i.e.-- using dedicated pans for pasta & serving on paper plates, etc. (gluten free pasta is....um......well, it's just not really pasta). I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Or as the kiddos would remind me, "Here am I and the children whom the Lord has given me! We are for signs and for wonders...." NOT for nervous breakdowns!!!

Terry--haven't heard from you in a while. I need to get back over and check out some more Poly pics on your TR.

Michele--forgot to thank you for checkin' out my website! I love that pic of Mason. And you'll be down at your next weigh-in. That's how it goes sometimes...one week nothing, the next week boom! This is my "week" of the month when I won't lose anything no matter what I do. So I'm just waiting for the end of the week when that pound or two will come off all of a sudden...I hope!

Splash- :yay: :woohoo: :cheer2: Welcome to ONE-derland!!! Ain't it great? Keep up the good work.

2p&1princess: Good for you on the fridge makeover! It is a lot easier to stick to plan when the tools are there for you, and the "bad stuff" is not!!

Ashley-DD has a friend who has numerous allergies, including gluten. The whole family does the gluten free thing. Mom bakes all their bread, makes cakes and cupcakes by the truckload for Maggie to take to b-day parties, school etc. The pasta is the hardest, but they manage. Maybe your kids will be willing to "give up" those things at home so that Mason can not feel excluded, and maybe as a treat they can go out for pasta -like a special mommy or daddy and me "date" kind of thing. I know that you will work it out, with the good Lord's help. And I bet your kids will be on board with whatever is best for that cutie Mason.

LaLaRoo-Steelers, eh? I guess it is programed at birth there, maybe its something in the water!:rotfl:

I am hoping for a good weigh in on Thurs. Staying on plan is an absolute must. I just want to get to 174.8, so that with 4 weeks to go until the trip, I only need to lose 1.2 each week. So doable. And I am STILL kicking DH's booty in our contest.

See ya all later!!

Hey everyone, I'm here :wave2:

Still just really exhausted every day, and wondering how I'm going to handle the drive to New Jersey this Friday, by myself. I just hope that I get an adrenaline rush or something, at the thought of being at the Jersey Shore, and seeing my sister and niece (Jerseylicious), and my GREAT niece (Jerseylicious' DD). :grouphug:

When I read the thread, I feel bad about not replying, but then it feels like a mountain of energy to reply to everyone separately, and then I feel even worse about NOT doing that. :guilty:

I just want you all to know that I am reading this thread, I'm so happy to see some new people join in (it's such a great group of people here!!!), and the "regulars". :grouphug:

I think I've lost a couple of pounds since my last weigh-in at work last Friday. I'm very close to the 20-pound weight loss mark. :) Also, Veronica, seeing your shiny gold "35 pounds lost" WISH smilie has inspired me to a new goal; I want a shiny gold "30 pounds lost" WISH smilie in my signature in 10 1/2 weeks, for our Explorer cruise! I only have about 11 pounds to lose to get there (I'm almost at 20 pounds now). I hope I can do it

My body hurts, I keep taking naps, and I lose my train of thought easily, but I have to say, at least I'm keeping at my healthy way of eating, so that's something, right? :) I'm sure I'll snap out of this soon....

P.S. DH and I each entered a picture we took from our stay at the Polynesian, over on the Photography Board's weekly contest. Here's a link, and if you like our pictures, we'd appreciate the votes He is "CapeCAD" here on the DIS boards, and you all know who I am. lol :cool2: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1548828

P.P.S. DH and I are both Patriots fans. :cheer2:

You may have already mentioned, but have you had your entire thyroid panel tested lately? You are describing exactly how I feel when mine is out of whack.

Hey Terry-

I hope you are feeling better soon too:wizard: How long is the drive to Christie's? Tell her I said to take it easy on you and let you rest! Well except for Monday night, when we will be chatting!

Thank you for the priase on my WISH smilie. I know you can get to the 30 lb mark before your cruise on Explorer. You will be looking good for your 9 nights of cruisin' fun, I just know it!

If I don't talk to you before, I'll talk to you Monday night!!

Good Morning, Minnie Sistahs!

Congrats Splash on One-derland! That is awesome! :cool1: Keep up the good work!

Ashley - Let us know how DS2 check up went. I'm hoping too that after this week I will be down! I've felt pretty bloated all week so I'm chalking it up to that.

Vern - Good luck with your weigh in! pixiedust:

Seaspray - Hope you are feeling better! I see on the wl challenge you have dropped 4lbs! Great job! Have a safe drive and fun visit with you DS. I tired to vote on your picture but it wouldn't let me vote

2P & 1P - Wanna give my fridge a makeover too? :rotfl:

Too anyone else I might have forgot keep up the good work.

I am starting WW next week. Wish me luck!

Have a healthy great day sistahs!

Michele:cheer2:

Hey Sistahs!!!

Just checking to see how everyone is doing. I am looking forward to tomorrow's weigh in-I have a good feeling about it.

LaLaRoo-I see you "stalking" me over on the exercise challenge thread!! Good for you. Keep up the good work.

Well I gotta go read to DD. We are on Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. She is very interested in it, so off I go!!

I will check in tomorrow after I weigh in.

You may have already mentioned, but have you had your entire thyroid panel tested lately? You are describing exactly how I feel when mine is out of whack.

I actually have rheumatoid arthritis, and plantar fasciitis, and now there's a brand new pain my left foot. :sad2: It's on the outer edge of my left foot, about halfway down. I have no idea if this is related to the plantar fasciitis, or if it's something new. I don't even want to know. lol I do go for blood work every few months; I know I'm due to go soon, I'm pretty sure that my doctor checks everything, but I'll ask specifically about thyroid, thanks :)

Hi Veronica! We're looking forward to the chat on Monday night :chat: My BIL is currently in the hospital, so that's the only thing that would interfere with our plans. They're running tests on him because he passed out at work a few days ago and they don't know why. Talk to you soon :)

Good Morning, Minnie Sistahs!

Thanks for trying to vote, I don't know why it wouldn't let you. :confused3 But thanks anyway :)

So... this morning I woke up and my scale showed me at exactly a 20-pound weight loss! Notice the new WISH smilie thing. :) HOWEVER... tonight we ordered Chinese food and I think I had too much :guilty: :guilty: :guilty: Tomorrow morning is my "official" weigh in at work, I'm going to be really angry with myself if I show a gain tomorrow. :sad2:

Good morning Sistahs!

If you look at the bottom of my siggie, you will notice something new. I GOT A 40 POUND BANNER!!! I weighed in today at 174.8, my goal for the week, making my total loss 40.2 lbs!!! :cool1: Only 10 more pounds and I am half way to my ultimate goal! It feels so good to see those numbers get smaller each week. I want to thank all of you for your support and understanding, because I really, truly think it helps me to stay on plan and keep going.

Terry-20 lbs YOU GO GIRL!!! WOW! Don't worry about the Chinese food, you can't stop living! Let us know how your WI went.

LaLaRoo- I saw on the weight loss thread that you made some progress!! Good for you!

Ashley-how was Mason's check up? As always, I keep him and you in my prayers.

2p/1princess: -How are you doing since the fridge makeover? I'll tell ya, since we have gone to the healthy lifestyle, my DD is totally okay with it. She does not seem to miss things we had before, but then she is an unusual child as she likes vegetables and fruits, and will try almost anything.

Splash-How goes it in ONE-derland? Now imagine that 1 with a lower number in back of it. Keep up the good work.

Hope everyone else is doing well. We haven't heard from some of you, but hope you come back and let us know how you are doing.

Well Sistahs, I gotta go do some chores before I go to work. Laundry:laundy: waits for no one, except the naked (no wait, the naked wait for the laundry!:rotfl: )

Have a great day!!
