Need help - MASSIVE amounts of weight to lose

Just popping in to say "Hey".

Vern - Congrats on your super weight loss for this week!

I'll be back later, but now I've got to get off this &*%($&$) computer and actually do some stuff around the house.

Hey Sistahs-

Well today has been interesting. I apparantely got myself in hot water by posting something on another section of these boards. I have seen the not so nice side of some members of these boards. But all my Sistahs here have hearts of gold and I truly enjoy chatting with all of you.

So I saw 175.8 today-HOORAY!!! DH still thinks he can beat me, though I am up (well down actually) 5 lbs on him. We only have 5 more weeks until the trip. I am going to get to 170, I know I am!!!

I hope you all are doing well on your quest for better health and fitness.

I'm back. Today was an ok day eating-wise. I made Fondue tonight, which my family loves (so do I), but it "costs" 15 points. So I ate low point for the rest of the day and enjoyed the fondue. I also did my WATP dvd and that earned me an activity point.

I really didn't do much today. It was just too hot outside and I didn't feel guilty at all for letting the kids watch a movie and play video games for most of the afternoon. Usually, I'm a stickler for them getting some imaginative play in their day, but every now and then, I relent. My ds6 would play computer or video games all day long every day, so I know I have to push him to do other things. Tomorrow, we'll definitely get to the pool for a couple of hours.

Ashley - How was your b'day dinner with your friend?

Vern - Oooooohhhh, now I'm curious about what you said. popcorn:: I find these boards to be mostly civil, but I've seen a few "fights" break out. I used to go to a Scrapbooking board that could be very nasty.:confused3

LaLaroo - Have you seen a Dr. about your fatigue? You could have a thyroid issue. I have hypothyroidism and before I was diagnosed, I was always exhauted no matter how much sleep I got.

:wave2: Hi to everyone else.

Carol

Hi Ladies!

Carol thanks for the advice. I feel pretty good today but if I continue to feel fatigued I will definetly check with my doctor. I was working out in the terrible heat and humidity we've been having so maybe that was it ( I don't know why I didn't think about that yesterday). I worked out on the elliptical in my house last night so I am hoping that it was just the heat getting to me since I feel good today.

Vern congrats on the 175.8! :cool1: I know you can make 170 by your vacation! I can't believe you got yourself in hot water! We know you are a wonderful person with a heart of gold too and it is just too bad others judge you on just one post! Forget them!

Ashley how was your b-day dinner? I hope you enjoyed yourself!

Have a great day and weekend everyone!

Michele

Hello all around Sistahs!

My birthday dinner was wonderful! My friend & I went to a little Italian place that I've never tried called Luigi's. It's really nondescript, in a grocery store parking lot in an older, less-than-upscale part of town (not a bad part of town, just kind of low-rent, if you know what I mean). As I was walking in, I noticed glowing reviews posted on the window, not just from the local Denton paper, but also from the Dallas Morning News (I'm kind of snobby that way--:snooty: Denton paper says something, big deal. Now if the Dallas paper says it, well it must be true!). And it was really good. Of course, psycho that I am, I had already decided before leaving the house that I was going to order lasagna. For one thing, since she was treating me to dinner, I figured lasagna is usually a pretty reasonably priced entree. And I was really in the mood for something slathered in marinara sauce & melted cheese (like, what could be better I ask you?) I never, ever order lasagna out, because I like more adventurous dishes, but this time I was in the mood for it. But as soon as I started looking at the menu, my plan unravelled, and I ordered baked tortellini, which was good, but not nearly enough melted cheese. I really wanted to try their homemade pizza, so we'll definitely be going back as a family soon.

A few minutes after I sat down, DH calls, and of course like any mommy of four kids, I'm thinking "Oh no! What's happened?" Nope, DH, DsweetH, says to me "I just wanted to let you know that everything's going great here. I've got everything under control, the kids are doing fine. So don't rush; enjoy your dinner & your time w/ Marla and just have a great time!"

So....I did! We sat down about 7:30, and didn't leave the restaurant until
10. It was so great to sit down and visit w/out feeding one child, telling another to quit bothering his big sister, and having to get up to take another one to the restroom....twice. I never get grown-up time w/ friends, and it was a real treat! The only thing that would have made it even better would have been knocking back a few glasses of Chianti, but I had to drive home, & my friend doesn't drink anyway.

And I'm joining the "Gee, I wonder what the heck Veronica said to P someone O!!!" club! Isn't it funny that some people just don't realize that life is too short to get their undergarments in a wad over words??? I mean, unless someone is just blatantly hateful, why can't people let it go?? What, are they in kindergarten: "Teacher! Veronica's being mean to me!!" I hate cyberwhining. But we love you, Veronica, and we'd never tattle on you!

Have a great day Sistahs!

Hello all around Sistahs!

Sistahs, sistahs, never were there such devoted sistahs! (Janet Lee and Rosemary Clooney, from Holiday Inn)

Also, Rosemary Clooney and Vera Miles AND Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye in White Christmas. I luurrrve that song.

Ashley - I'm glad you had such a great b'day dinner with your friend. It is so nice to eat dinner without once getting up from your seat. I have brunch with one of my girlfriends once a month and I really look forward to it. Now what I really need is a good babysitter, so my dh and i can actually go out for dinner and a movie once in awhile.

Well, ladies, my niece and nephew are arriving tonight along with their father (who is my dh's brother). The "kids" are now teenagers and I having a hard time coming up with things to do that will appeal to teenagers and 6 year olds. Any ideas??? They'll be here from tonight until late Sunday afternoon. I give myself one free meal a week and I'll definitely be using it while they're here since I'm sure we'll order food at least one night.

Gotta go. Catch y'all on the flip side.

Carol

Hey Sistahs-

BTW, White Christmas is my all time favorite movie. I must watch it 50 times during the Christmas season.

So I am *so over* the drama on the other board. So not worth my time anymore. But yesterday it had me down, that on a message board about a happy place, that you could not express your opinion without having people personally attack you.

So I am sticking only to the WISH boards, and with my sistahs.

DH feels that he is going to "get his game on" soon and beat me in the contest. Yeah, I'm shaking in my now too big blue jeans. I only have one pair of pants that fit. YEAH, but no $$ in the budget right now for a new temporary wardrobe. So I will make do, and wash these pants over and over!!!

I will post again later, now DD has to go to TaeKwonDo.

C-ya!!!

I always get Holiday Inn and White Christmas confused. They are almost the same movie (kind of like Mira Sorvino and Mena Suvari are the same person, right? ), but White Christmas is the one we own and watch over and over I think--w/ Danny Kaye & Bing, right? "We'll follow the old man wherever he wants to go..."

Woo-hoo on the "too big blue jeans!" You crack me up! I actually was in a thrift store on $1 day looking for white mens shirts to use as lab coats for DS8s "mad science/anatomy" b'day party, and I found a pair of the new Levi's boot cuts for --that's right folks--$1!! I think that's the way I'm going to shop until I have that hottie size 8 bod-ee! (ooh-I rhymed!)

Hi everyone :wave2:

Sorry I haven't been around much the last couple of weeks! Since getting back from WDW 10 days ago I've been busy getting unpacked, caught up on sleep, AND I've had a MAJOR RA (rheumatoid arthritis) flare-up. :( I even had to take off of work this past Tuesday. I'm moving VERY slowly and I have no energy. I'm slowly feeling better though.

Anyway, in the end, I gained NOTHING from my WDW trip! YAY. lol And I got weighed in at work today and I've lost 1 pound this week. It's not much, but I'll take it. I'm still in the lead in our "Biggest Loser" contest at work. I only have 3 more weeks to go, and I have to maintain that lead so that I win. lol

I hope everyone is doing well and I WILL catch up on all of the posts. *HUGS* to all of you :grouphug:

Welcome Back Terry!!!

Glad you had a good trip. Sounds like the Poly was wonderful. Perhaps someday I will get to try it (it would mean giving up a cruise, hmmmm I may have to think hard about that:lmao: )

Good job on the weight loss. You can win, I know you can. Sorry to hear that your RA is giving you grief. Hopefully you will be better soon. Perhaps a trip to the seashore will bring you relief

Ashley-your birthday dinner sounded like fun!!! How nice to go out with another adult person for dinner and not have to worry about potty, food spillage, bickering etc. You think I'm kidding about the pants? I literally have only 1 pair of jeans and one pair of sweats that fit. I tried on some of my "really fat" pants. DH looks and says "what is wrong with those, they look horrible! I tell him that the jeans aren't stuffed full of my blubber butt so now they look stupid. So a bunch more stuff goes on ebay. I need to find me one of them $1 thrift shops to get some clothes!!! I am going to try on some clothes at the Wally World sometime soon and then ebay shop for a few things. I am SOOOO looking forward to ditching all my fat summer clothes once this summer is over.

LaLaRoo-I see you over on the exercise and weight loss threads. Good for you. Keep up the good work.

Carol- I have no idea what to do to entertain all those kids. Turn the hose on em if its hot, I guess. Good luck.

BRENDA-where are you????? We haven't seen you in a while and hope you are okay.

G'nite sistahs!!!

Good Morning Everyone!

Seems like the dog days of summer are taking its toll all around. I think people are getting tired of all the heat. Our heat index here was 122 yesterday. Needless to say, I didn't mow the backyard :lmao: Our mini dachshund may end up lost in all that grass pretty soon :rotfl2:

I finally, for the first time, find myself second guessing my food choices, making sure that I really want it. I feel empowered. In control. Loving it. I've been doing at least 2 miles a day on the elliptical every other day, and doing something else in between, video, walk, weights..etc. And feeling great. My DH hugged me this morning and asked how much weight I'd lost and I told him I wasn't going to tell, didn't want to jinx it!

Vern~ Definetly get rid of the big clothes. Don't let yourself think you may need them sometime. And ignore people on the threads, I often find some poeple attacking others who have a different opinion :)

Ashley~ Glad your BD dinner was such a great time. Sounds very relaxing and enjoyable

Carol~ Teenagers....doesn't every teenager love the mall? :thumbsup2 Plus the a/c ain't so bad either :lmao: A Dis meet in the making (never done one) sounds fun, where will you be staying?

SeaSpray~ You are in my thoughts. I have many family members with RA, it runs in the family, I know how painful it can be. I am hoping you feel better very soon

Have a great day everyone and a super weekend...looks like it may storm here at any moment..that would be a nice break!

Good morning Sistahs!!

A Look into Veronica's Crazy Weight Loss World:

I was running on the treadmill this morning and suddenly it dawned on me that my thighs weren't rubbing together like they used to. I got so totally jazzed about that. How cool is that? I figured you guys would "get it"!! But that really obsessed me for a while while I was running. Like I was consciously thinking about it. And it was a good feeling!!!:woohoo:

Splash-122 heat index-WOW!!:scared1: I wouldn't move from the A/C at ALL. We had a cool day yesterday, only in the low 70's, that's why the thing with the jeans. I even wore my WL shirt, which had been rather snug, but now fits nicely. Good for you on the food choices, I know what you mean. God bless you on that elliptical, I can't do it. I would rather run a marathon than do that elliptical machine!! But it works for you so keep at it!!:cheer2:

Well its Saturday,so that means chores. Bathrooms need to be cleaned and I have to finish grouting the tile in the kitchen by the new door we put in (almost a year ago, but so what:confused3 :rotfl: ) It is supposed to warm up today, but I think the pool may have cooled off quite a bit with yesterdays rain and cool temps. But I will stay busy and not sit on my booty and eat!!!

Have a great day everyone!!!

We have been having alot of heat here in Indiana, too. My son didn't get to swim except on Friday, because they evacuated the outdoor camp to an indooor recreation center. He attends summer camp that is sponsored by my husband's company and the YMCA. For 10 weeks, it has a science theme, since my husband is a scientist and works at a pharmaceutical firm. The last week, there is no science theme, since alot of the counselors are teachers, and need to go back to their schools to prepare the school year. So, he was a bit disappointed. No pool, no science, no field trip. Oh well.

I lost 1 lb this week; I'm right at 150. It might be because I needed to change my blood pressure medicine. I was feeling a bit light-headed earlier in the week. Actually, on Monday and Tuesday, I felt like I might pass out driving in the heat after getting into my car in 100 degree weather. I checked my blood pressure and it was 90/60. So, I changed to a formulation without a diuretic, which, of course, removes fluid. Now, I feel much better, and my blood pressure is fine with less medicine. (Doctors can do things like change their own medication). I am hoping that when I get to my goal weight, I may not need blood pressure medicine at all.

We are going to the state fair today, and later, we are going to our school picnic. It should be a nice busy day.

Good Morning Sistahs!

Getting ready for DD12's family birthday party. We really milk our birthday's in this family. We started hers with the San Antonio/ Fiesta Texas trip, which was actually on DS2's actual b'day, and had the b'day festivites w/ my stepmom on Lake Travis, then her party for her friends was Thursday night, and today we're having local family over. I'm making her favorite--Indian food. Last year we did an Indian themed party and it was so cool. I'm making her a chicken dish, Indian meatballs, lentils, rice, raita, if I get industrius I have some mangos for a homemade chutney, and I got some naan bread at the store. Oh, and a pumpkin pie, but because I didn't get it done ahead of time it's going to have a graham cracker crust instead of my homemade pie crust.

Veronica--:woohoo: WOOOOOOHOOOOO! That is so awesome!!! I just know one day we are all gonna have daylight showin' between our thighs!:)

Splash--Heat index of 122??? We are going to be at 103ish today, w/ a heat index of prob 110, but I guess I won't complain! Yikes!

Delilah--great job! I still have 5 pounds to go to meet my mini-goal of 150. But in just 2 more pounds I'll hit the 75 pound lost mark!!

Have a great day!

Hi everyone!

My niece and nephew just left and things are finally quieting down a bit. Yesterday, we ended up taking them to a new place in town that is sort of like a Chuck E. Cheese for all ages. It's called Fun Expedition and it has arcade games, mini golf, a climbing wall, laser tag a soft play/climbing area and bowling. In other words something for all the kids to enjoy. I played Dance Dance Revolution with my niece and that game is a great workout. I might have to go back over there without the kids and just dance my extra pounds away!   Afterwards, we went to a nearby orchard/farm market and got their specialty, which is apple cider doughnuts. These are the best doughnuts you will ever have in your life. I limited myself to one yesterday and one today. I also got some sweet corn and red potatoes, so I could balance the junk out with healthy food.

Last night was the Redskins first pre-season game and I'm a die hard football fan, so we decided to get snacks and watch the game at home. I did a pretty good job of not overdoing on the snacky stuff. I had a lot of my flex points left for the week, so I used them all up and tried to drink a lot of water.

This coming week, I want to focus on staying on plan and getting in some activity since we're leaving for the beach on Saturday.

Seaspray - Hope you're feeling better soon. BTW, the pictures on your Poly TR are absolutely amazing. It's my dream to stay there some day.

Splash - 122 heat index??? This is why I won't move anywhere south of where I am right now. The 105 heat index here was more than I wanted to deal with. We're staying off site in Windsor Hills for our Jan. trip. Where will you be staying?

Vern - Thighs not rubbing together = a cool NSV (non-scale victory). Way to Go!

Delilah - You're almost to that new decade! I'm also hoping that I can get off HBP medication when I'm at goal weight.

Ashley - I'm coming to your house for dinner. That sounds so yummy and I just love Naan. Mangos are also one of my faves. Happy extended Birthday to your dd.

Time to get the kiddos off to bed and then I can catch up on some reading or work on my Disney scrapbook. Decisions, decisions.

Carol

My neighbor has Dance Dance Revolution, and is always asking me to come down & work out with her, but I'd have to bring the two little ones, and Mason is into everything, and with Ramie's peanut allergy, it's too hard to take her to other people's houses & worry what she might touch--my neighbor's family eat a lot of nuts, too, so I would be out of my mind worried.

But, we're going back to homeschooling this year, so with the two older kids home during the day, it would be easier for me to run down to Diana's while the littlest ones are taking their naps. I'm also looking into hiring a sitter once a week. I've never left the kiddos w/ anyone other than my DM, and I think DD3 is going to be the hardest sell, but with her older bro & sis here, I think she'll be okay.

I have some really exciting non-weight news I just have to share w/ my Sistahs! My family is starting a non-profit organization to combat negative societal attitudes about Down syndrome, and to attack the unbelievably high abortion rate of babies with Downs, which is currently about 90%. So I had met a guy on staff at our church (we go to one of the largest Evangelical Christian churches in the DFW area, w/ a membership of about 4000) who was very receptive to hearing about our plans. Basically, our first two major projects are a media campaign (I've already published 2 articles in local publications and we have a DVD aimed at expectant parents in the works), and a residential farmstead where adults w/ cognitive disabibilities will participate in the running of a working farm, as well as in educational programs where school groups will come to the farmstead to learn about agriculture and the role it has played in the development of Texas from the past through today. The goal of that particular program is to get a generation of kids building relationships w/ people with cognitive disabilities so that they will learn that these people are valuable friends and teachers.

Anyway, I talked to the guy again yesterday, and he's asked me to put together a vision/purpose statement for the board of elders so that they can look into the possibility of helping us get things rolling.:cloud9: I am so ecstatic! I've put together a vision statement, as well as a "virtual tour" of the farmstead on paper, and have sent it out to a few friends for feedback. Hopefully I can deliver it to the church this week.

The goal of this exercise, of course, is for me to *gulp* actually meet with the elders to discuss our plans. Now, I used to be a big time corporate sales rep, visiting clients in 72 story high-rise office buildings in Downtown Dallas. But that was ages and ages ago! Well, 10 years ago. A whole decade! As much as I love to get in front of a group of people and deliver a message, I am just a wee bit intimidated to meet with the elder board. I think that public speaking is so one sided, you can fake competence. The elder thing will be interactive, and they are so gonna figure out that I am just a little ol' housewife who still feels 14. Except when I was 14, I thought I knew everything.;)

Still, for all my whining about being scared, God has opened up a tremendous opportunity for us, because our church is such an awesome place, and I just know that we will find the resources we need to move forward!

Just had to share with my Sistahs!

Hope everyone is doing well! Hopefully I'll have a chance to get back over to Terry's TR and look at some more Poly pics. I tell ya Terry, you got me lookin at the Poly rates to see if we could by any way swing a couple of days at Poly (we can't--7 people, 2 rooms, DH's bill- ). But you've convinced me that we need to spend a lazy afternoon or evening exploring the grounds, maybe gettin a snacky and letting the kids check out the beach. DS8 is my big-time explorer, so he will love it. And DD12 is at the age where she loves all things posh, so she'll really get into the whole "isn't-this-almost-like-actually-being-in-Hawaii?" experience. DD3 loves sand, so she's on board, and DS2 loves everything, as long as there are people around to tell him how cute he is.

Good night sistahs!

Carol-
Glad you survived the "invasion". I know all about cider donoughts, the farmstand near us makes the best ones, you have to get the ones with the cinnamon/sugar on them. When they are fresh and hot, OMG!! Fully explains why they are -O- shaped!:lmao: :rotfl: And I am with you on the football-we have been watching it every time it has been on. Once the season starts, we will have to come up with some healthier snacks for game time. I have never done the Dance Dance thing, DD loves to do it at the teen center at the YMCA. I am just not that coordinated. But hey a good workout for you it seems!!

The thighs, they are a changin'. We went to the racetrack again today (todays giveaway was the Saratoga folding chair). We park on the street about 3/4 of a mile away. Then get the chairs. Then walk back to the car to drop off the chairs. Then another mile walk into "town" to get some postcards for DD to send to her friends. Then back past the car to the track to bet on some ponies (DD won $4.90!) Then back to the car to go for dinner. A lot of walking in the heat (about 85 today, very sunny) But my thighs weren't rubbin with all that walking!!! What a glorious thing!

Ashley-YOU GO GIRL!!! What a wonderful thing for you to do! Remember God does not give you more than you can handle, and He is helping and guiding you all along this journey. I am *absolutely 100% positive* that you will go in there and WOW the elders!!! I know that this project will happen and hope that your church is going to help you succeed. I wish I could help in some way-if I can, please let me know.

Well girls, I am off to bed. Back to the grind tomorrow-DD goes back to camp now that summer school is over and I have a date with a treadmill at 6am.

Stay well (and cool) and THINK THIN!!!

Just got back inside from viewing the Perseid shower w/ the oldest kids. Tonight is supposed to be the peak. We used to live in the middle of nowhere, and even when we were building 2 years ago our skies would be so dark and stars everywhere. We're still pretty secluded, but they've built meganeighborhoods all around w/ in about 6 or 8 miles of us, and so now the starwatchin' isn't the same. We still saw 4 or 5, and a couple of them were awesome!!

Veronica-- coolio on the thighs! How awesome! DH and I go play the ponies every year for his bday and I just love it.

Thank you for the encouragement! I could write pages about the amazing things God is working out every day, and about how every day it becomes apparent how the different experiences and people He put in my life have been leading up to this. Sooooo awesome! If you want to check out the website (I may have to be sneaky so it doesn't edit me--although we're not selling anything on the website), here it is: www.thenewfaceofdowns.org. Now, just in case it didn't go through (I've had that prob before w/ other websites), here's the secret code: okay, you know the www part, then it's TheNewFaceOfDowns. followed by org . The pic on the homepage is my DS2 when he was DS1.

One thing you could keep in mind is that if you ever hear of someone who has found out prenatally that their baby has Down syndrome, please refer them to our website. So often, these precious mommies are just scared, because they remember some poor soul w/ Downs from back when they were in junior high, some kid who didn't have the benefit of early intervention and therapy, back in the days when they thought people w/ Down syndrome were severely limited as to what they could learn and do. The story is so much different today! If you check out the website, on the profiles page we have a pic of a 14 year old barrel racer. She's awesome, and frequently beats the other girls. We also have a link to a letter written by her dad that is so sweet.

BTW Carol--Redskins??? Oh you can't be serious!!! Oh well, I love ya' anyway Sistah. When I was a kid, my dad and I used to watch the Cowboys play the Redskins and shout "Go Pokes! (as in "cowpokes"), Boo Skins!";) But actually, there's been so much bad behavior since the whole Michael Irvin days that I've been disallusioned. It got hard to cheer for guys that were so full of themselves. A few years back hubby actually got me a Redskins water mug-- I was like "Hel--lo?!?!" He got me a Cowboys mug, too. I keep them next to each other on the shelf. They need to learn to get along, I figure. . I'm pretty much using one or the other of them constantly, so when I'm drinkin out of my Skins mug, I'll think happy thoughts about you. Or maybe I'll think happy thoughts about apple cider donuts, because those sound deeee-lish!

Off to print out my grocery game list. TTFN!

Good Morning Sistahs!

No weight loss this week :scared: . Oh well I just have to keep telling myself that this is a process and it will take time.

Ashley I checked out your website. Your Mason is a real cutie. I think it is a wonderful thing that you are trying to do for kids with DS. A lot more people need to be educated on people and children with special needs. Best of luck on your meeting with the elders. God will give you the strength you need to get through it. I wish I lived close to you so I could help you on your journey. If there is ever anything I can do to help get your message out here on the east coast please let me know!

Vern - Congrats on the thighs! I am sure that is an awesome feeling!

Splash - Good for you on becoming more food conscious! I thought it was hot here but 122 on the heat index I will never complain again!

Deliah - Congrats on your loss too!

Seaspray - I hope you are feeling better! I love your trip report. I showed my mom the pictures and told her when we go next year we should stay there!

Have a great day Sistahs!

Michele

Good Morning Ladies!

I'm just popping in to say that I had my weekly WI this morning at home and I'm down 2 pounds! Woo Hoo! I really think that for me, journaling everything I eat is what makes the difference. I just stop eating sooner if I'm committed to writing it all down.:cool1: :cool1:

I've got lots to do today, so I'll be back later to catch up on everyone's posts.

Carol
