Need help - MASSIVE amounts of weight to lose

Hi! I've just finished reading this entire thread and I'm glad I found it. I never saw the WISH threads before. I would love to join in, I need all the encouragement I can get from those who understand. I guess I should tell you all a little about myself...

I'm 34, been married to the greatest DH for 13 yrs., and we have one child DS who is 11. I've been overweight since birth :lmao: my mother still talks about my fat thighs that rolled over my knees when I was learning to pull myself up at 10 months of age. I've tried most diets known to man and managed to lose 28lbs. three yrs ago. But, like so many others, it didn't stay lost for long and I found 23lbs over the last year. I am needing to lose 62lbs. My goal is to lose it before our vacation in Jan.2008. I feel as if I'm a hinderance to the family while at WDW or anywhere else, because of course, I have to slow down and rest, and that makes me feel like a burden to others. The thought of me at TL in a bathing suit brings reality front and center. I've decided that it is a life change that must be done ~ not easy, but possible. I really don't eat 'junk food' too much. My problem is overeating on whatever is in front of me at the time and no exercise. But, I'm changing myself and as of Wed. (Aug.1) I've managed to go 4 miles on the elliptical while listening to Disney online radio and staring at a pic of the family in front of the MK castle in 2006 ~ not pretty :rotfl: but an incentive to keep at it. I've also lost 2lbs. So, that is my story in a condensed version. I look forward to getting to know all of you and hopefully being an encouragment to someone else, because having read this thread a few minutes ago, all of you have already encouraged me as I begin my day :thumbsup2

Hi Minnie Sistahs!

Vern - Way to go with the loss! hey a loss is a loss no matter what the number! Give your daughter a big hug from all of us! :grouphug: I hope that she starts feeling better soon! I'm sure having the best mommy in the world sleep with her was a great comfort!

Welcome Splash! You have taken the first step in your journey to a healthier slimmer you! Congratulations! Great job on the exercise and weigh loss! Keep it up and before you know it that 2 lbs will be 10 and so on!

Have a great weekend Minnie Sistahs!

~Michele :cheer2:

Thanks LaLaRoo:hug: DD is hardly eating-today she only had a milkshake, some egg drop soup(about 1/2 cup) and a little yogurt. I feel so bad for her:sad1: She is being a trooper and I just keep telling her that things will get better in a while, but she is a 7 yo who just knows that she hurts right now and that she really doesn't like things at this moment. It is for the greater good, but she ain't buying what I'm selling at the moment.:rotfl:

A loss is a loss, agreed. I signed up for both the August Weight Loss Challenge and the exercise challenge (I see you did too!!) I signed up for 6lbs for August-hoping to get more. I would like to be 170 before we go to WDW on 9/12. Just under six weeks for 8.4 lbs. IT CAN BE DONE!!!!

The exercise is a lot easier. Hopefully I can get to the gym soon and add some weights into the mix.

Keep up the great work everyone and welcome to Splash!!! You are on the right track!!

MINNIE SISTAHS ROCK!!

Hellllloooooooooo (in a tiggerish voice) where is everyone?

How is everyone doing on their plans? I am moving onward and downward. DD is doing better-mashed potatoes with gravy are her "thing" right now-pasta too!! (two things I don't eat, so no big deal for me!!)

We went to the Saratoga Racetrack today. We parked about a mile away and walked and walked all around at the track. I even won $23.40 in the second race!!! And today was Tshirt day-I got to get a large instead of XL and DH *almost* fits into the XL (well it fits but it is tight) He has been wearing XXXL shirts for some time.

I ran today as well and we swam in the pool when we got home. So hardly any couch potato time for me!!!

I am thinking of all of you (especially you Brenda) and hope to hear from you all soon!!!

Good Morning, Everyone!

Vern, I am glad to hear that your daughter is starting to eat a little more. I feel so bad for her! That's awesome about getting smaller shirts! What a great feeling. I tried on a shirt that was tight on me and it fits!

I had a pretty ok weekend. Saturday I went off a little too much. A friend of ours family was in town from Hondorus and they made us dinner. Tacos and enchiladas were a little too hard to resist. Then we had ice cream. Bad I know but I needed it after Friday night.

Friday we get this letter in the mail from our phone company stating that our check was returned by the bank. :confused3 So we called (I am freaking out thinking someone wiped out our bank account) they said that it was returned due to the account being closed. Umm no we didn't. The lady told us that this happened to another customer and here when he got his checks the account number was wrong! Low and behold I looked at our checks and the account number is wrong they have a 9 instead of a 6! Uggh! So I call the company that we bought our checks from and they can not help me until today! I spent the rest of the night online making payments so atleast I will not get charged a late fee! :surfweb: I just hope the check company holds true to what they said and will help with all the fees I will be charged! Its not like it was one or two checks it was 13! :scared1: I know shame on me for not checking very closely but it wasn't very noticable.

Anyway, I played tennis for an hour on Saturday and Sunday! Lost 1 lbs this weekend!

Thanks for letting me vent!

Have a great day minnie sistahs!

Michele :flower3:

Hi all,

I've been reading this thread for a few days and I love how supportive you all are of each other. Do you mind if I jump in?

A little background...My name is Carol and I'm a 40yr old SAHM to my beautiful B/G twins who just turned 6. I have PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) that made it difficult for me to conceive and also contributes to my weight problems. However, I can't blame all my weight on the PCOS, I also have a huge problem with portion control and junk food. I've done Weight Watchers in the past and have had success at various times. Right before I got pregnant, I had lost 40lbs. Of course, during my pregnacy, I gained all of that weight back plus a little more. After the twins were born, I lost almost all of the pregnancy weight quickly, but then stalled because I was struggling just to keep up with the day to day care of twins. Anyhow, in the intervening 6 years I've put on 50 lbs and I was already about 60 lbs overweight. So I need to lose at least 100lbs.

I started doing Weight Watchers Online 2 weeks ago. I started at 250lbs. :scared1: Weight Watchers is a program I feel comfortable doing and I know it works. At my WI this morning, I was down 5 lbs for the 2 weeks!   My goal is to lose 40lbs by our WDW trip in Jan. 2008. That's a little over 1.5lbs. a week. After we get back from Disney, I'll set my next long term goal. My daily goal is to write down EVERYTHING I eat in my online tracker. This is the one most important piece of the puzzle for me. As long as I'm writing, I don't overeat. Or if I do, I see it in black and white right in front of me and I get right back on track. I also have a weekly goal of getting 3 activity points in this week. This goal will increase as I go along, but right now any exercise is better than the zero activity that I do right now.;)

I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you.

Carol

I'm so excited--I am almost in the 140's. I weighed 151 on Saturday, which is when I normally weigh myself.

I have been having a busy and eventful past couple of weeks. I am chairman of the school commission at my son's school (a small Catholic school). We had a crisis two weeks ago with one of the teachers, but, that seems to be resolved for the time being. School starts next Wednesday, and we have a meeting on Thursday, so, we have meeting planning to do. Last Tuesday, my whole office went out to dinner. It was a very nice Italian restaurant, but it was the first time that I have gone out to dinner since starting my weight loss plan in May, other than when we were at Disney. So, I was nervous about not being in control. Obviously, I must have done OK since I lost 2 lbs for the week, the same as the week before.

To add to my enjoyment, two doctors were out of town last week. This is always fun. But, next Monday and Tuesday, I am off. My son is out of school, and summer camp is over this Friday. I have more vacation days than my husband, so I am using two next week. So, I am returning the favor I had been given last week. Next Monday, there will only be one doctor in our office (we normally have three), but, I was the only one last Monday.

I got more good news, from my perspective at least. We are going to WDW over fall break. Yesterday, I got notified by the airline that our flight will be leaving two hours later, at 4pm. That means that I don't need to take my son out of school the first day, since they are being dismissed at 12:15. Who else besides me would think it was good news to be arriving in Florida two hours later? Our returning flight is also arriving two hours later on Sunday, and that is good news as well.

Hey Girls!!!

LaLaRoo-I know about the emotional eating/comfort thing. That thing with the checks would have scared the livin daylights out of me for sure:scared1: Good for you with all the exercise and losing a pound this weekend!!!

Delilah-you go girl!!! 140's here you come!!! I can't wait to get there again. A 2 pound loss is great!!! When are you going to be in WDW? We are going in 37 days (but whose counting???)

Welcome Carol!!! :welcome: We are glad to have you here with the Minnie Sistahs!!! I am also doing WW, though I do it on my own. Portion control is key. Good for you on the 5 lbs lost already!!! It is a tough thing to lose weight, much easier to put it on than take it off. Any activity is better than none, just get up and move!!! I tend to push myself very hard with exercise :yay: (I am running 13 miles per week, and trying to get back into the gym to lift weights, but life keeps getting in the way!!!:rolleyes1 ) I do feel a great sense of accomplishment when I am done exercising and am all hot and sweaty. (not pretty, by any stretch, but definately feeling better).

I am hoping for a good week this week, would like to hit 177.2 or less this week, for a 1.2lb (or more hopefully) loss for the week. If I can stay at close to 1.2-1.4 lbs/week, I can make my mini-goal of 170 by our trip on 9/12. Plus I want to kick DH's butt and win the prize in our contest!!!! I'm still thinking sports bras, but would love to save up for a Garmin or other GPS for my running.

Keep up the good work ladies, keep the faith. WE ARE WORTH IT AND WE CAN DO IT!!!

PS Thanks for the wishes for DD, LaLaRoo. She is doing much better with her talking, the eating is coming along. She is still doing mashed taters, will try some type of protein substance tomorrow (like a hamburger, or maybe goulash or something)

We are going to WDW October 24-29, leaving Wednesday and coming back Sunday. Like I said, my son has a half day on Wednesday, so, I am happy not to have to take him out of school for the trip. I know it is less than 90 days, because we had seat assignments on NWA last week. I am always trying to do one thing at a time. Today, I had to set things up for school commission next week. I also do the call schedule for the doctors in our office, and they are all wanting to know when they are on call. One, in particular, wanted to know if he was on call Labor Day weekend. He's not--I am. I actually have the whole year set up, but, I need to change things a bit to take into consideration when people are on vacation.

Welcome to the Minnie Sistahs, Carol! :cutie: 5 lbs in two weeks is great! Congrats! We are here if you need us so check in often! I found this thread a few weeks ago and I have to tell you that the support and encouragement these ladies have for one another is amazing!

Congrats to everyone else on their weight loss! Deliah I bet next week you will be posting that you ARE in the 140's! You go girl!

Vern, Glad to hear that DD is doing better! Good luck at reaching your mini goal I know you can do it! For me 15 down and 5 more to go until I reach my mini goal of 20 by my September vacation! :cool1:

Have a great day ladies!

Michele

Good Morning Everyone! I am so excited!!! As of this morning I weigh 200lbs!! I'm thirlled :woohoo: can't wait till on get on and there is a '1' at the beginning instead of a 2! And thanks to all of you for the warm welcome and encouraging worlds :goodvibes I'm glad everyone is doing well. Carol, when in Jan 2008 are you going? We will be there Jan 20-26. Have a great day all, and keep up the terrific work!

Good Morning everyone!

Thanks for the welcomes. I'm feeling good because I did a WATP 1 mile walk this morning. I so hate to exercise, but I'm awfully proud of myself when I do it. :thumbsup2

It's so hot here today and my ds6 wants to go to the pool. Normally, I love the pool, but on a day like today when the heat index is supposed to go above 105, I know the pool will be so crowded and not fun at all. I've convinced him that we should go bowling instead. We have a bowling alley in town that lets kids bowl one free game every single day during the summer. They also give them a ticket for a free hot dog, so it's a very cheap outing. :goodvibes

Vern - I can't imagine running 13 miles over the course of my life, let alone in one week! :rotfl2: You are now my exercise goddess.

Delilah - Good Luck on getting into the 140's soon.

LaLaroo - Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm so glad I found this thread. It's great to find Disney fanatics who are working toward a common goal.

SplashMtnCrew - Can I call you Splash? Congrats on getting to 200! I know what a big deal that is. By next week, you should be in One-derLand. And guess what? We'll be in Disney from Jan. 19th-28th. Do I feel a Dis Meet in the making?

Hope everyone has a wonderful, cool day.

Carol

Hey everyone-

Carol-I have never been any ones exercise goddess, but I thank you for the mad props. I started out slowly and have worked my way up. Like I said, I tend to push myself hard with the exercise now, as I have seen that it makes a huge difference for me. It doesn't hurt that my inlaws are fitness freaks and there is a sense of competition and oneupmanship with them (its meant to be encouraging, but sometimes it can be tough to deal with)

Splash-Good for you on 200!!! Pretty soon you will be in One-derland and what an accomplishment that is!!!

Everything else here is pretty much the same. DH is really stressed out at work (as he always gets at this time of year) and has taken to eating to calm himself. I am trying hard to not nag him, but also steer him toward better choices. DD had a hamburger today and some chicken. I think she has pretty much gotten the hang of the appliances and she is talking much better.

Thursday is my official WW weigh in-I am hoping for 177.2 or less. Wish me luck!!!

Hello all! Well, I survived San Antonio & Fiesta Texas. I was a little disappointed because our youngest two, DD3 and DS2 (yes, DS1 is officially DS2 now. In fact, we were at Fiesta Texas on his birthday) couldn't ride very many rides.:guilty:

There was the worlds smallest ferris wheel--it had 6 cars and couldn't have been more than 15 feet tall-- and the snot nosed teen :snooty: at the helm told me I couldn't bring Mason on. :headache: First he said he was to young. I'm like "Actually, he's 2 years old." Then he says he can't ride unless he can walk. I'm like, for cryin out loud, I didn't know there was walking involved on a ferris wheel. :confused3 Can you please tell me during what portion of the ride we'll be walking? Because I was kinda lookin' forward to sitting down. But I nicely said "Well, he doesn't walk very well yet because he has Down syndrome." Mason was even wearing his little purple bracelet that they give at Guest Services to identify guests w/ special needs.

The guy actually makes me put Mason down and tells me he has to walk--UNASSISTED-- I can't even hold one hand! Everything within me wanted to pull out the "show me some pity for my handicapped child" card, but I didn't. But man, I was so glad when Mason took 3 steps before trying to sit down and investigate the asphalt. Seriously, he can take 8-10 steps in a row, but in an unfamiliar place, he just wants to crawl around & check things out. Anyway, 3 steps was enough for geekhost boy & he let us on.

Mason loved:love: the ferris wheel. We did the train and the little cars, and he was just ecstatic. But those were the only 3 rides he could really do. I was so bummed. I guess you just can't compare every theme park to WDW!

Anyway, I stayed on plan!!! Yea!!:woohoo: It wasn't too bad, except for Saturday, when we celebrated Mason's 2nd birthday and DDRiley's 12 birthday at my stepmoms, and she informed me we would be doing our party at dinner around 7. For breakfast, her hubby made quesadillas, so I had a little of the egg & sausage filling by itself; then for lunch, she was eating chips & dip & some other assorted stuff, and drinking her rubyred grapefruit juice, and I ate my broccoli & a couple of cucumber slices as I'm thinkin, "Dang! 7 oclock is a looooong time to go w/out any carbs!" But once she put up her chips, I was fine. I wasn't really hungry as much as I just love those chips & dips. I even checked the label on the dip, which I already knew had HFCS (high-fructose corn syrup--it's the debil, I tell ya'!), just to make sure they hadn't reformulated it to make it carb-free:rotfl: . But it was okay, because dinner was the bomb-- separate birthday desserts for DS and DD because of DS2's celiac disease, so we had a meringue pie (like those forgotten meringue cookies, but big) smothered in whipped cream, strawberry sauce, and chocolate, and homemade key lime pie (I'm kinda famous for my key lime pie).:cloud9:

Even Sunday morning, when DSM made --gasp-- Eggs Benedict!!! Could there be a more perfect food???-- I did great. Had two poached eggs w/ just a smidge of hollandaise, and decided "Mmmmm.. I think I'll make Eggs Benedict for my reward meal one day next week."

Anyway, I've come to a new place in my journey. Technically, during my reward meal I can eat anything (an everything) I want. That strategy has served me well for this last 70 pounds. But now that I'm at this plateau --which, believe me, plateau is better than gaining!--- now I'm ready to take it to the next level. So for my reward meals, I'm going a lot healthier. I've been thinking about it for a while, but now my mind has wrapped around the idea. I'll still "reward" myself every day, but for the most part I'll just do it a little healthier. Like starting out w/ bunches of raw veggies, salad, steamed seasoned veggies, fruit, cutting out the fried, processed, frozen garbage food I've been eating and instead fixing yummy "real food"--like those eggs benedict. One day this week I'm going to make flatbread pizza w/ pear and gorgonzola. I'll still have my dessert--but maybe one serving instead of three servings. And I'm finally ready to say "Adios" to my Highfructosecornsyrup sweetened Coca-Cola. I can't believe I just said that, but I mean it. I bought some of the mexican cokes that are sweetened w/ regular old sugar, plus they are 16 oz. instead of 20. Way better for my body. Way less glycemic.

Okay, I told myself "Gee, I'll just take a minute to check in & say "hi" now that I'm back in town." But yet again I've managed to write a stinkin' novel!!! Sorry sistahs!!!

So while I'm at it, here's a big "HELLO!" to our new Minnie Sistahs! Welcome aboard! Okay, babies to bathe, stories to read, noses to kiss. Good night all!

Carol, Cristabel, & Splash--Welcome! :hippie: Glad to have you on board. Thanks for sharing your stories.

Garada--you asked about the "food side of things." I think several Sistahs are doing WW, and there are some NutriSystem I think too. I'm doing the Carb Addicts plan, which is basically you can eat anything you want for one meal every day, but the rest of the day is basically Atkins. It has been the easiest plan for me to stick to, because it really takes zero willpower. The first few days are as rough as any diet I guess, except that you can eat enough at your "reward meal" that you aren't hungry until the next day! After those first few days, your brain just quits listening to your stomach. I can go all day w/out eating and not really care. But now I do my reward meal for lunch, and at dinner if I eat anything, it's like some raw broccoli or bell pepper strips. And trust me--I've never, ever been a rabbit food person. It's just that I really don't have those psychological eating issues very often. Unless someone's eating chips & dip in front of me, that is...

You can't do the plan w/out reading the book, though, because there are guidelines based on the chemistry of how our bodies produce insulin. The authors are Drs. Richard and Rachel Heller.

LaLaroo--Great job on your weekend weight loss! I can't play tennis. I have no concept of how to aim the ball.

Irish Kitty--sounds like you're well on your way!

Veronica--I hope DD7 feels better soon. It's so hard to see our babies hurting. WTG on signing up for the challenge! You can do it!

Terry--great TR! Yummy pics! If you guys haven't checked it out yet, I recommend it--but on a full stomach, because it will make you hungry. I just may need to eat me some Poly food next May. And wow! I loved that swimsuit top!

Brenda--Hey girl! Hope everything is going well for you!

And if I've forgotten any of my Sistahs--sorry! It's late and I'm trying to catch up & go read a couple of chapters of Tom Sawyer to DDalmost12 & DS8 (we're at the part where Muff Potter is in jail for the murder Injun Joe committed).

Good night!

It's 5:10pm and no one has posted yet today? The kids and I just got home from a day spent at the mall. I was supposed to take them to Chuck E. Cheese, but the place was packed at 11:30 am. They graciously agreed to accept a Chick Fil-A lunch and a ride on the Merry-Go-Round in lieu of the crowds at Chuck's. Of course, now I have to take them back some other time and the closest one to us is 45 minutes away. Sigh...only 3 more weeks until school starts and I won't have to spend my days coming up with entertainment options. I really should have signed them up for some camps this summer.

Anywho, I did really well at the Mall with my lunch. A chargrilled chicken sandwich from Chick-Fil-A is only 5 points on Weight Watchers and I snagged a few of the kids fries. As a snack later on, we got the small size of Dippin' Dots and i only ate about 1/2 of mine (I'm not a huge ice cream fan, things like potato chips are my big downfall, so ice cream is actually one of my safer choices of junk food).

Ashley - Do you live near San Antonio? My in-laws live there. It's a fun place to visit and the kids have been begging us to go there soon. Unfortunately, the airfare from Virginia to Texas is usually pretty high. It was too bad that you couldn't go on more rides at Fiesta Texas, but I'm sure your younger kids had a good time just being there. That's what I love about toddlers. They're usually so happy just to be out with the family.

One more day of oppressive heat and then we might get a break on Friday. I can't wait for some cooler weather.

Carol

Hey there!!!

Just got finished with dinner-a wrap with turkey and low fat ham, mustard and lots of veggies. I am looking forward to my WW Key Lime cheesecake dessert.

Tomorrow is WW weigh in day. I weighed today for the contest between DH and I. 177.2!!! I am hoping that tomorrow I am the same or possibly lower! Tomorrow morning is my 3 mile run, then DD has her last day of summer school and a presentation thing as well.

Hope everyone is having a good day and staying cool if it is warm where you are. It has been brutal here. But the weekend is supposed to be nice.

Actually we live about 5 hours north of SanAntonio, in Aubrey. It's about 45 minutes north of Dallas.

I hear ya' on the heat. I was so ready for the rain to end--it was getting scary down here for a while. But today when the 5 day forecast was triple-digit every day, . But that's summer in Texas. Heck, that's Spring and Fall in Texas, too! I'm not a hot weather person.

My dear friend is taking me out to dinner tonight for a belated b'day treat. Don't know where we're going--my tases run more exotic than hers, so I'm going to let her pick. So I haven't had my reward meal yet. I had a cup of green tea for breakfast (I know; I'm bad about skipping breaky), and for lunch I scrambled some eggs w/ cheddar cheese--BLECH!! I'm not a big scrambled egg person. I'll eat them w/ american cheese, but I'm out of the low carb cheese I usually get, so I did cheddar, and while I love cheddar just as far as eating it, melted on eggs doesn't really work for me. Then I sauteed some shrimp in garlic butter to go with it, but they were precooked cocktail shrimp, so I could only keep them on the stove for a minute, and they didn't get very tasty. So lunch was a dud.

DH forgot he was supposed to come watch the kiddos for me to go out, so he's running about 45 minutes late. Switching my reward meal to dinner makes me a little crabby:mad: , so I hope he makes decent time getting home!

Good Morning, Minnie Sistahs!

Well so far this week I have walked every day for 30 minutes and I know I should feel good but every morning I wake up feeling exhausted. I go to bed at a descent hour and take a multivitamin every day. Does this happen to anyone else? Is there something else I should be doing?

Ashley sorry to hear about how people were treating DS about going on the ferris wheel. Some people can be down right rude! At least it sounds like he had a good time on the rides that he did go on.

Congrats Splash on 200! Congrats Vern on 177.2! And Congrats to everyone else on their weight loss!

Well I better get back to work.

Have a great day!

Michele
