Need Help... Looking to Add Points Resale

I used to think multiple UY was something to worry about because thats all most mention. Im now realizing it can be hard to juggle multiple contracts even if they are in the same UY. If the DVC site was more user friendly it would be much easier
I'm finding, in my little experience, that thinking about being forced to use these points because they were banked or borrowed within a year or losing them is giving me the most anxiety out of everything.

From what i hear, most people have the opposite experience though, where they wish they had more points 🤣🤣

But then I assure myself that renting is an option for now and that gives me more peace. But then I'm afraid to bank or rent and then I end up wanting to use them. The struggle 🤣🤣

I have three UYs and my best advice for managing them…is to treat them as though they are it and book different trips with them.

We do split stay a lot which makes it even easier but I would borrow before I transfer because it makes like much easier for me.

However, I found that having restricted and unrestricted points more of an issue since we love RIV than the different UYs.

Yes I am trying to do this as well!

I'll have to use both uy on this trip because I bought a stripped contract (another mistake of mine lol) but instead of transferring, which I'm avoiding as much as possible, I booked as many nights as I can on Membership 1 and the remainder will be on Membership two and then bank all remaining.

I'm happy the December contract will cover my annual birthday trip in january next year and then the feb will cover aulani in May.

I love split stays particularly 4 nights at each resort which goes perfect with 4 wait lists. So far, so good! We will see how it all pans out soon enough! Since we like to travel twice a year I'm really thinking this was a great way for us so far and im glad i chose to do what i felt best for our situation, despite what others strongly advised against. If it turns out to be a disaster, my sellers ROFR will be posted 🤣 I already booked up my first contract for this year, waiting for the second!

I bought a stripped contract and was great. I know most say DON'T do it but I knew I wouldn't need points until the next trip I was planning (about a year after buying) and I was getting it for a steal because it was stripped.
It's all situational, I could have used those points for our trip this year and been in a better position than having to wait for my other contract with more points.

It was cheaper than some contracts I've seen but not cheap enough to where I was satisfied with the decision. Oh well, live and learn!

I appreciate everyone's feedback and I am open for more!

I love the idea of buying direct even if I have to do some financing because the better members rates mainly because the savings over the lifetime of the contract (2066) but it is also a big IF they continue to give the sorcerers pass as an option. The other thing I love is in 2042 I will still have 150 points that I can use at ANY resorts where my resale will become much more limited.

I am still watching resale contract as buying 100 pts at BW or BC would still be a lot less upfront and not out of the question. I am still trying to decide if it expiring so soon and then just having 250 pts resale with limitations in 2042 is to much of a negative. Plus then I will be buying another contract in 2042.

Option 138 is buying direct and keeping an eye for a small BW or BC to add in a few years but then I will be like all you Disney degenerates that can't stop adding points 😂

They can take away sorcerer's pass at any time unfortunately.

They can also restrict you from going to any resort at any time that isn't your home resort, even direct buyers. Highly unlikely, as the backlash would be brutal, but the legal jargon makes it possible if it somehow makes sense to them to do this for any reason.

This is the way.

Side note: I am NOT advising you to buy direct or resale. Many people are happy with both.

I am just presenting the facts that do not take years of being a member to realize.

I would never advise anyone what to do with their personal finances definitively, and I don't think anyone on here, no matter how many years of them being a member, should be doing that unless they know you personally. I am always happy to provide info that I've learned from my research 😊

Fully in favor of Option 138. We bought VGF direct first, love the resort but when we saw people walk back to BCV from EPCOT, got really jealous and bought BCV resale. Also our BCV resale is only ~20% of all points so not really worried about 2042 expiration. Will have plenty to use after.

I have three UYs as well. This has been very helpful in terms of extra spots on various waitlists. From the extra spots, I was able to put together a five-night stay at Beach Club over the winter holidays last year and a four-night stay at Grand Californian later this year, even though I don't own at Beach Club or Grand Californian (and those two are very difficult to book). So even though there are issues with multiple UYs, there are upsides as well. Beyond this, I've never had a problem turning various UY reservations into "a continuing reservation" (which is the term MS uses). (1) If you have multiple UYs in your set of reservations, they CANNOT be combined into a single reservation, but (2) MS can add a note that says "continuing reservation" to keep you in the same room and (3) each resort is supposed to scan reservations a day or two in advance to spot likely continuous reservations, whether they are noted as such and (4) I've always felt it was helpful to confirm my continuing reservation at the front desk when checking in.

Thanks for this info, I didn't think about confirming my continued reservation at front desk when I get one after telling MS.

I am praying that my 3 waitlists at Beach club go thru! I was able to piece together three 1 bedroom nights thru stalking, but then dropped it because poly came up for myself and my extended family thru stalking on the same days and now they are tagging along we need a two bedroom at BCV. Was able to snag one night of a two bedroom so far and happy I have extra points for a backup jic!

Just for clarity, if MS combines your reservations (all same UY) into a single reservation, you don't need to check at the front desk. You're all good. But if you're linking individual reservations (different UY) into a continuing reservation, checking at the Front Desk is a good idea. Twice--and only twice--I've found that the reservation wasn't flagged even though I asked MS to add a note.

Good to know! 😀

Would you say this (being harder to juggle) is true for multiple contracts/same UY/same home resort? Or just multiple contracts/same UY/multiple home resorts? Just curious as I intend to add on and double my points at some point, and I go back and forth between making it the same resort or diversifying home resort advantage.

For me it has been even same resort. To be fair I have a lot of reservations (15) and I was using some banked points. Somehow I ended up borrowing and some went to holding too it became a mess. The dashboard doesn’t really allow you to easily see what reservations are using what specific points if it did it would be much easier to juggle.

Single UY: One Use Year definitely simplifies things...(by a lot!)

Majority of points at one resort (larger villas and during peak times):
Though we have some smaller contracts at other resorts, we chose to have the majority of our points at one single resort...to allow us to get a 3-bedroom Grand Villa every other year at Christmas time. We like having this flexibility.

Also, having the majority of points at one resort allows us to get a 2-bedroom Villa at peak times throughout the year (each year).
