Need help, here now - would first aid have

Agreed.

I usually don't stick my nose in where it doesn't belong, but I feel bad for the OP because if it was me, I would be hurt by these replies. They were trying to find out information to help their child, not asking everyone at pick at them for doing it.

People spend months on these boards asking questions and getting advice for their WDW trip. Is it wrong to feel a sense of community and to feel comfortable enough here to ask a question even if they had the option to ask someone else?

I personally don't understand why anyone would even question why the OP asked here. Really, who cares? You can choose whether to answer the question or not. But why try to analyze the reasoning? Answer (or don't) and move on.

I've only been on here about 5 months, but i've observed a ton helpful people who are friendly and kind and then there are those other people who seem to purposely go out of their way to make people feel stupid. I don't get it.

OP, my kids have had so many ticks as we are always in the woods.

PLEASE check the tick area over the next week or two. Keep a look out for any red ring forming where the tick was. If you see this go to DR and your child will be given antibiotics. No big deal, but just keep an eye on it.

Did your kid get the tick in WDW or from home? Curious where in WDW you can get a tick, especially as FL is not a tick region.

Exactly!!! Been here since 2005 and it has only gotten worse! I understand its a discussion board but what I don't understand the constant cruelty? I mean why not just answer someone's question and keep the rest to yourselves? While it's a free speech country it doesn't mean you can use your right to hurt others.

Here's my issue with asking something like this on a public forum, such as the DIS. We have already had bad info on this thread. Someone posted that they were given an ice pack, but no bandages or Tylenol was available. Well, I've been to three different first aid stations...they all had pain relief as well as bandages available. So, what would have happened if someone had posted, early on, that there were no tweezers at the first aid stations? The OP would have probably left the park and gone looking for them elsewhere.

So much better to just go there and see what is offered.

I am quoting your post, but it is equally valid for the others that offered helpful, supportive comments.
We work really hard to keep the board a safe and friendly place for new and existing members.
Given the speed the boards move at, we can easily miss posts which do nothing to represent the bulk of the brilliant posters on this board.

Please help us by using the report post button to flag up posts that warrant a closer inspection.

Rest assured posters who continually flout the DIS guidelines will have their continued participation/fun removed from the boards.

My thoughts exactly.

I also wondered about the tick. Curious if she got it during the vacation or if it was prior to it and just wasn't noticed until then.

You can get ticks anywhere there are trees and animals. She could have easily gotten it there. But, it really doesn't matter where she got it.

Why do people have to be so nasty?

Ever think that OP is from a region of the country where ticks are rare and isn't sure how to deal with them? Don't insult people's intelligence just because their experience is different from yours. Just answer the question or move on.

Thank you. I honestly had no idea about the reporting option. It really is terrible how adults(!!) act like such bullies. I joined in hopes of finding other people who get giddy over WDW like me, not to be insulted because I'm not part of the "clique". My activity on here has been pretty limited for that reason.

Really? It took the OP 2 minutes to get an answer to the question. If she was all the way across the park from first aid, it would take more than 2 minutes to get there. Perhaps OP didn't know where first aid was located - I only know for MK because I used it once, but have no idea where it would be at Epcot or AK!

Two minutes is a lot quicker in my opinion...

In this case, that's true, but there are also CM's everywhere that could have been asked.

I was trying to be mean at all. I was just thinking (out loud) about what I would do in that situation. :hippie:

I use the Dis a ton, but if I had a question while at Disney, the Dis would be the last place I'd think to ask, because I'm at the source.

That was my point as well. I also agree with an earlier poster that asked when electronic communication took over from face-to-face communication in a situation like this.

There are plenty of posters, though, some with 10's of thousands of posts, who have learned how to stay right on the line of personal attacks and avoid punishment.

Posting rhetorical questions designed to make the OP look like a moron but without making a direct attack is the order of the day for many long time posters.

This!! You are right on the money. So many posters have mastered the art of passive aggressiveness so that if their nasty remarks are questioned they can quickly backpedal.

I stay off the non-Disney boards because they seem to be the worst.

Maybe people get snarky because they realized that the OP was at the parks having fun and they weren't:rotfl2:

PS OP if you are reading, if you happened to save the tick and believe the tick was on your child for longer then 24 hours, you can have the tick tested for lyme disease.

Perhaps op was in a queue line. Sometimes there are no cms around. I can sit In a 45 minute queue line without passing a single cm until the ride entrance.

^ That's a great point. And a highly likely situation. Maybe her DH was on a ride with another kid and she couldn't wander away right then. We don't know. Which is why I don't get why people still have to question the motives. It's none of our business, we're just here to answer the questions. :)

Some areas are more likely to have them then others though, and being watchful of ticks in Disney World isn't something I would have thought about. If she did pick it up there then i want to be more cautious. So maybe it doesn't matter to you.. it did to me or would not have asked.

Maybe but it still boggles my mind when people post questions on boards like this when there are far easier and probably better sources of information more readily available.

What is it with these types of questions? :confused3

Maybe next time, just offer some sincere advice and leave it at that? :thumbsup2

No, there were others.. They've been removed now, not sure if by the poster or an admin, but either way, hopefully it was before the OP saw them.
