OK background time:
We live in a home thats about 20-25 years old that we rent. It has a well. It is on a water softner but not a filter that I know of. There is a small filter next to the bucket that the salt goes in but nothing else I can tell.

Ok, here is my issue...
Our water has been increasingly discolored (slight yellow) which I am told is normal for wells, but then why the change in color?
Also we are noticing a "slick" on the water, like when it sits for awhile (tub, pots). Anyone have any idea what this is from?

It's hard to get ahold of the Landlords, so I'm just hoping to fix this myself, unless it gets to be pricey.

Have you thought of having a sample of the water analyzed? Try calling the local Health Dept. first. It's a start.

This could also be water softener failure, have it checked out.

You may need an iron filter. Our former house had water that would turn orange like Tang when the iron filter didn't work.
