Hi! I could really use someone with more experience for a few ideas... It's my 6 year olds birthday at WDW and we bought a fantasmic package so it could be as magical as possible without the big waiting line :) The only restaurant open Feb 3 was Hollywood and vine so I took it.. I really want him to have a cake or dessert with a candle on top (still important at this age) and he REALLY hates chocolate and vanilla cake.. he loves fruit and really hoped for something with strawberries I don't mind paying more than the 12.95 cake but we are only a party of four and the strawberry custard cake starts at a cake to serve 20+ people.. any ideas?? I thought of buying one at Publix which I have read is close by but then can I take it to the restaurant first thing in the morning?? Is H&V an easy location to run a cake to? are there any other bakery's or places to get a beautiful fruit dessert to have at the restaurant close by or in MGM? Thanks for any ideas I really appreciate all suggestions :)

Call the cake hotline at Disney. They are WONDERFUL to work with.

We had a 6" Strawberry cake for our anniversary last year and they only charged us the $12.95. This was at Mama Melrose, but we used the MGM cake line.

Even if it isn't listed, they can probably do something for you.

Yes that was the first thing I did. But she said there wasn't any options other than chocolate and vanilla. :(

Not sure if this would work for you, but maybe call again and see if you get a different CM. They may be more helpful to you.

Sorry that the first CM threw up such a roadblock.

IF that doesn't work and you need to get the big cake - this could be fun too, and is what we did...

We couldn't eat all of our cake, nowhere near it. We found a nice family sitting by us and gave them the leftover cake. Some people may think it's 'icky' but they were really great about it and VERY appreciative.

I have also heard that some restaurants will hold a leftover cake until the end of the day, maybe you can call H&V directly and see if they could do this for you?

I don't think that ordering and bringing in from Publix will work. I doubt Disney would go for that.

thanks for the reply :) I thought about trying to "share" since I think I read (probably your post) it in the cake thread... I only mentioned other bakeries because I also read somewhere here that you could bring a cake from grand Floridian bakery (or some other bakery on the boardwalk I think) or publix which was one of the the mentioned places and the poster included a link.. they might have been talking about eating it in your room. I guess I will try calling them again and hopefully I can get some other ideas from a different CM.
Since H&V is a buffet could I still order a dessert and request that they put a candle on it? or do they just have whats one the buffet.. sorry if its a really dumb question but I have never been there:confused3

What about doing the cake part of the birthday celebration at another meal? At lunch or breakfast? Or maybe even set it up for the next/previous day -- and tell him at WDW birthdays just go on and on. ;)

I'm sure H&V will provide a cupcake with a candle; I know I've seen that in just about every WDW restaurant.

thanks for the reply.. I only made one ADR for that day since the only time i could get was 3:40 pm kinda pushing it to squeeze a big lunch in too kwim? but I absolutely would just do the "cake/dessert" thing another night if one of the other restaurants will be able to provide something other than chocolate or vanilla....?? Any restaurant do good fruit pies? thats what he really loves :) He's just one of those strange kids who doesn't like sweets lol and I really hoped that in WDW we could have a special dinner and special dessert that he likes. But I guess we'll have to think of something else unless the other restaurants are different.. I think I'll try scouring the menus

if pie is his favorite, how about birthday pie for breakfast? Trying to deal with a cake and fantasmic does not sound fun.

What about a birthday breakfast at Crystal Palace or Chef Mickey's? Either on his actual birthday or another day of your trip. I've heard that, if you mention that you're celebrating a b-day ahead of time (like when you make the ADR), they can decorate the table w/ confetti. And I think they sometimes even give the b-day guest a b-day card signed by the characters.

At breakfast, you could probably order some kind of special fruit pastry or something...

You do have to decide - its not easy - we celebrated at Cyrstal Palace and didnt have the cake that we "really" wanted, as they couldnt deliver it - but dd was just as happy with the cake we did get - and they kept it for us till we were heading back to the resort!

(Crystal Palace was also taking walk ups when we were there during free dining period end of Sept!)

Thanks for the replies.. I do have an ADR at Chef mickeys the next day so I guess I'll call and ask them to make a note that its his birthday... :) sounds like a good idea! I guess I wanted to make the whole day really special and had ADR"S for the whole day that I was happy with but canceled them to do the Fantasmic package at the only restaurant left.. so here's to hoping it was worth it! lol the night before we are whispering canyon and I think they have an apple crisp or something so maybe we should have his dinner there.. sounds like a fun place for a 6/7 year old to have a birthday dinner ;) thanks again for the tips and suggestions :)

Maybe Starring Rolls bakery would have a fruity dessert for you. You could bring your own candle and just have the dessert for a mid-day snack since your ADR is at a tricky time for a big lunch.

The Boardwalk Bakery isn't too far away also. If they have something fruity, maybe you could go there on your way home from MGM or for a mid-day break?

Boardwalk Bakery delivered a cake to the Yachtsman for us for our anniversary, it was a white cake, but I am sure they have other options. I am not sure if there would be something you could work out with them. Did you try calling the restaurant directly, I don't even know if that's possible as the concierge arranged the cake for us on our anniversary, but it's worth a shot. Also, which resort are you staying in, there might be something available there.

if you have access to a car to leave properity, you can go to publix or another grocery store and buy a cake and then take it over to H&V sometimes the night before then they can bring it out during your dinner. you can talk to your concerge desk if you have more questions - i did this two years ago for my sister's 21st birthday at rose and crown

Try the Boardwalk Bakery, they have a nice selection of cakes.
