This July I'm spending a weekend in Moodus, CT. Since no one wants to go with me it looks like I'll be flying in. What airport should I fly into? Where should I stay? What about a rental car? I've never been to that area before so I don't have a clue about any of this. Anything else you can offer to help me plan and book this trip will get GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks!

Oh yeah, I'm going for a jazz festival. Anyone want to have a mini-DIS meet there?

Hey welcome to CT. I would say to fly into Bradley (BDL). As for where to stay sorry I can't help its the other side of the state. BUT you will be in the area of the indian casinos, could be fun. :thumbsup2

Casinos close by? :cool1: This might be the best birthday yet!!! Thanks!

Try these for things to do Mohegansun.com or foxwoods.com They are the Casinos webpages (Can I post this?) good luck I think you will be half hour to fourty five minutes away. There is also lots of things to do in Mystic (aquarium and seeport).

Actually there is nothing in Moodus but the Jazz Fest! It is as small town as it comes.
Bradley (BDL) would be the airport and it would be about an hour from there. There are many car rental agencies at the airport.

If you aren't staying at Sunrise (Frank Davis Resort) where the festival is there are towns near by that you could stay in.

Haddam, Essex, Deep River (bed & breakfasts there) are a close drive as is Middletown (about 1/2 hr. away) there are several motel/hotel type places in Middletown.

How close to Moodus do you want to be driving back & forth time wise and I can narrow it down for you.

It is a lovely area...as a matter of fact there is a property called Johsonville right next to where the Jazz Fest is that is set up like a small town. You use to be able to tour the buildings and there was a restaurant there where we had our wedding reception. It was very pretty.
In fact Billy Joel used the pond & waterfall on the Johnsonville property in his video River of Dreams. The property was sold and is no longer used for tours but you can drive on the road the runs through the property.

Let me know about driving time you want and we will see what we can come up with!

Thanks Colleen! Maybe 30 to 45 minutes for the drive. I don't want much longer since I will apparently be by myself.

Chell have you been to the Sunrise website? They list a couple of places that they have a discount for. http://www.sunriseresort.com/jazzlodging.html

The Inn at Middletown is a very nice place and no more then 30 mins. from the fest. There are quite a few inns/B&Bs in the towns surrounding the area.

Ct. tourism calls this area the River Valley and I think you will have the nicest things to see if you stay anywhere from Middletown south....some towns are Essex, Chester, Westbrook, East Haddam.

This link will give you info. on some of places to stay and things to see.

Also this link will give info. on East Haddam which is what Moodus is a part of.

I hope this gives you some help getting started with your trip.
Ask any questions and I will try to give you specific info.
