names like thing1 and thing2, cruella and stitch, etc- is really copyrighted. I have learned from printing companies about how disney pretty much has copyrighted everything.... I don't know too much about Dr Suess names, but I am sure it's the same. I think Cruella and Stitch is clever, and a good pick if you could use them..
But thing1 and thing2 would take away from your story's originality.
I really appreciate everyone's input here. My editor and I are considering everyone's suggestions. A decision hasn't been made yet, but a number of the names suggested in the thread are on the table, taking into account the other comments and factors to consider. Thanks again!
OK. I am trying to settle on names for my 2yo niece and nephew in my book, True Confessions of a Neurotic Disney Mom. They are twins. They came to visit us on vacation at the WL. In the story my niece is a terror that throws constant tantrums. She is described as being demon-possesed. My nephew's star moment is when he has a dirty diaper that is so foul that the stench nearly kills off the population of the Polynesian (where we were at the moment).
My editor and I cannot quite settle on appropriate/funny names, so I figured this was the best place for feedback. Here are the choices so far:
1. Skunk and Rat 2. Rodent1 and Rodent2 3. Rugrat and Beastly 4. Stinkbug and Rugrat 5. Diablo(devil) and Diabla(she-devel) 6. Beastly and Diabla 7. Hades and Diabla 8. Fang and Wildthing 9. Spawn1 and Spawn2 10.Other (make a suggestion)
I appreciate your feedback. Thanks to all who participate.
Oh! I totally like Angel and Essence. I was trying to think of a nice way to say I didn't like any of the first list...so I'm glad you picked two I love!
OT- My jaw just spasmed and I bit my tongue while typing this. Ouch!!!!
I think you do have to be wary of copyright laws, especially when it comes to Disney. They sue on a moment's notice and then worry about whether the legal fees are worth it later.
Ugh! I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but I really am trying to make my book the best that it can be. I still can't figure out what to do about the names of my niece and nephew (2 yo twins) who wreaked havoc during one day of our WDW vacation.
My niece's name is decidedly Angel. I haven't found a perfect fit for my nephew. I was thinking about Essence, but it is just too feminine. So right now I am considering Pepe (as in Lavendar Blue's suggestion for Pepe the Pew) or Pooter. What are the reactions to these names?
I think Pooter is kind of cute. My editor likes Pepe.
And, even though your sister might be okay with her calling them names, I don't know if I'd appreciate my sister doing that with my kids, no matter how funny it was. I can call them little boogers, but no one else can.
I would not put anything to harsh in print, it is there forever after all.
You could wind up being the one who gives them the nickname that haunts them all through High School - I would be a lot tamer than those original ones.
I would stick with Wildthing and Stinker. Tamer, but still gets the point across.
